So I picked up Jeff Beck's new album today, Emotion and Commotion.  It's much more subdued than what we've had previously from him lately, though on a few tracks he pulls out the old Blow By Blow chops.  He's still got it.  Really, the dude has no peers ('cept maybe Knopfler) in terms of just wringing pure emotion out of a guitar.  I'll put up a review once I've given it a few more listens.  It's a nice present for us old farts who bought Truth when we were 14 years old.

I like his "sentimental" or experimental playing more than his fusion style, so I'm interested! Thumbs Up

Second listen.  This is special stuff.  Ol' Jeff is just out of his mind, both on the soft and on the hard side.

Oh, I can't wait to get this! Jeff Beck is one of my favorites - he is always evolving, always musical and very original...

There are moments on the album, where I'd just like to hear him take off, it's there for the taking.  Doesn't happen.  Same thing with Knopfler.  But we get what we get.  Incredibly gifted guitarists doing what they do.  There'll be those who'll shrug off Somewhere Over The Rainbow.  To me it's sweet sweet music from a master.

Tal isn't palying with this band.  See my review of his show from April 18th in the Live Review section:

Rhonda is every bit as good as Tal and in some ways better.  She also sings.  A Prince alumni

I was disappointed with his Grammy award winning album "Jeff".  I appreciated his exploration of the technology - but I just heard way too few actual chord-changes.  The sound exploration was cool - but if he had just made the experience a little more musically interesting to me I could have really bought into it.  As it was, I was disappointed.

Sounds like this new one will be "just right" for me though!  Big smile
Positively the best Prog and Fusion 24/7!

Yeah, Jeff didn't move me much.  Nor did Who Else? or You Had It Coming.  Not that I don't like those ones.  This one made a great first impression and is currently stuck in my truck's CD player. LOL

The new one is a welcome relief from Jeff/Who Else?/You Had It Coming.  So far my only complaint with the new one is that on a few of the songs with vocals it's almost like he just shows up to play the solo, as if he's guesting on his own album Confused

^ I don't get that.  The songs that he gave to vocalists he supported as it should be.  I think it was great. I also suggest you go see the live show.  Less vocals more guitar. He will blow you away.

I stand corrected.  Just gave it another listen, the first of many.   Sorry to be misunderstood.

Well in any case ol' Jeff was never one to let a vocalist get in his way Wink  Just ask Rod Stewart or Bob Tench.

The album, for me, is still the best thing he's done in decades.  He's remains my second favorite guitarist of all time, after Knopfler.  It's no accident that Fender put out eponymous Strats for those two.

And I'd still like to hear him just rip a solo like he does on Ice Cream Cakes, there's just something about that one that floors me.
