James hasn't posted in weeks, it seems.  What's he been up to?

He's had some ear problems recently, but they've been clearing up and he's been listening to music again lately.  I'm wondering when he'll get back to PA, though.  Rico should be due back soon, and I'm hoping Alex.ro and all the other absent shredders come back again soon too.

Yeah, I miss all my fellow Shredders.

Yep.  I have a something called a "life."Approve

And this life consists of me endlessly listening to music while pouring my life into the void (i.e. playing RPGs and surfing the Internet.)

If you are on the internet you should have a tab with PA open at least.

Nice, I'm sure that's fun.  What kind of keys are you playing?
The keyboard I have has a pretty big variety sounds, and most of them are very good.  The strings are actually decent on this keyboard, while most other keyboards strings sound cheap and fake.  (Most of the instruments you can play were recorded live, so it sounds authentic.)  Awesome stuff.

Nice, sounds like fun.

My life will be that this summer. And work. And hanging out with people outside of work. And whatever else I feel like doing.

I feel this is amongst my best bios. Not nearly as good as the one I wrote for Guigou Chenvier. That's my best, definitely.
I hope Hugues will review these albums Embarrassed

Ooh, Van Der Graaf discussion:

Quote Now Gabriel is a very respectable lyricist, especially once he went solo and found his poetic spirit. I will 100% support you there.

I just can't find any of Hammill's lyrics to have any redeeming quality whatsoever, they're completely unrelatable and come across as forced and contrived to me.

Hm... Gabriel's lyrics are a mixed bag for me. He comes up with stunning central ideas (which I think is why he's able to have so much mainstream success) but the details rarely augment these that much.

If you think none of Hammill's lyrics have any redeeming quality, you are wrong. Technically, he knows what he's doing. We already know we disagree on the relating, though I'd mention that a lot of what he raises (especially on Still Life and In Camera) are actually universal issues.

On the topic of VDGG, I'm split. Sometimes the lyrics are very good, sometimes they sound overly poetic. Sometimes the instrumentation is catchy and enjoyable, sometimes they get mired in blah. However, I gave H to He 4 stars, though I cannot say the same for Pawn Hearts- somewhere between 2 and 3 for this listener. Godbluff was somewhere between the two, though I've only heard it on youtube, and I'm not yet qualified to make opinions on any others. Just my 3 pesos.

Overly poetic seems a rather vague criticism of lyrics... is poetry wrong?

I'd put Bob Dylan as the greatest lyricist ever but then, he's perhaps the most important writer of the last half-century; Hammill would probably be my second favourite.

On Still Life:

I'm one day going to write a review where I explain as many of the many, many merits of Still Life as I reasonably can and then point out that's maybe my third favourite song on the album.
