So I made my "5 favorite bands" list on Facebook, simply because I haven't attempted to make a list like that in a long time. It came out like this:
1. Rush 2. Henry Cow 3. Kraftwerk 4. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones 5. Boards of Canada
|
Currently:
1. Tortoise 2. Pink Floyd 3. Radiohead 4. Can 5. Yes/Animal Collective/Kraftwerk
|
Great list.

Hard to be sure of, as always. My opinion of Tortoise may be heavily biased, considering I am completely addicted right now. Pink Floyd, though incredibly brilliant, I never listen to at all anymore. Radiohead is pretty solid, as is Can. Yes I never listen to anymore either, and all their classics have sorta lost their luster for me. Animal Collective is great, but they too have exited my normal listening tendencies. As for Kraftwerk they're definitely up there, but like Tortoise, they have no magnum opus album- no DSOTM/Animals or Kid A/OK Computer or Strawberry Jam to conclusively justify their lofty placement. or we could just say that all rating/ranking is futile and leave it at that. Let's.

3, 4, and 5 are all mega win. 2 is still pretty good too.

I know how you feel. I still really need to hear Tortoise. They're one of the highest ones on my list right now.

I hate doing top fives, because it changes all the time, but right now:
1. Molly Nilsson 2. Tom Waits 3. A Silver Mt. Zion 4. A Place to Bury Strangers 5. Stars of the Lid.

ooh Stars of the Lid? I have some 2-disc album from them, but I never got around to it. Seems kinda like it's just electro-ambient noise, but I've been wrong before.

Djed from the 96er, TNT from TNT, and Seneca are a good Tortoise crash course.
