I can't understand how so many people can be so attached to their cell phones and computers and cars and airplanes and satellite TV, and then turn around and try to destroy the system that made these things possible. As far as I know, many inventions have been made in countries with systems far less absolutely-capitalistic as this one. Remember, I'm not asking for communism. I'm asking for strongly-regulated market.

p.s. in case it wasn't obvious, I voted option three, although with the way things are going, the chances of that happening are looking grim. Of course. If your candidate wins next election, capitalism is going to be replaced with Corporationism pure and simple.

I sincerely doubt whether I will have a candidate in next election, at least not one with a snowball's chance in hell of winning. I am not a Republican, I am a Libertarian.

I'm not really sure what you mean by "corporatism" but if you are referring to things like corporate welfare, corporate bailouts and other ways in which the government exempts corporations from playing by the same rules as everyone else, than I am very much against that.

^I mean a world where big corporations reign supreme and all of us are but pawns in their game. This is the natural end of capitalism. Capital accumulation leads to monsters being created. With no regulation, those monsters will eventually get bigger than countries, have more power than them, and will dictate what is done and what is done.

And meanwhile, the little people will be fooled thinking they own even a 0.0000001 % of the pie...

You remind me of the "just got back from their first semester of college" hippies from that south park episode (I mean this in jest, not in any way implying you are stupid)

Species evolve or die.

Societies evolve or die.

Eventually the world will move past capitalism, or fall by its wayside. However, I don't think Capitalism will burn itself out. The system would have to be changed. If not it would grow out of control.

I agree with T. I don't think communism is the answer, especially not soviet communism, but regulations are needed.

If you label me a socialist so be it. I'll wear the tag. Much better than being a capitalist anyway. Tongue

I believe in Social Democracy
I don't feel like explaining but it is capitalism, with some aspects of socialism.

Despite everything I used to want to think, capitalism is the best system....however, it is clearly flawed. Social Democracy is the best of both worlds. Indeed, the Nordic countries score among the top in regards of ease of doing business, economic freedom, GDP per capita, purchasing power and all that jazz, but also are the best in terms of income equality and have great social services.

The best of capitalism and socialism.

tl;dr version

Capitalism, (so number one) but it needs reform, and eventually move to a social democracy

BUT thats being a realist (and thats no fun!) If somehow the world moved to socialism, I'd be 100% fine with that

The T doesn't believe that the market (meaning all of us, because we are all consumers) can regulate itself and prevent corporations from running our lives.  This of course ignores the fact that the alternative, a regulatory bureaucracy, does not have to meet any of the demands of the market and is utterly inflexable to the changing consumers needs unless there is a massive change at the electoral level (in politicians) followed by an actual change in personel within the bueaucratic agencies themselves.  It's basically about trusting a small group of people, that you never see, entrenched in a government agency over a large group of people, including yourself and every other consumer.  Frankly, I don't know how one could trust the central planning of the few over the market desires of the whole.  It's nieve to think that the few can effectively and impartially decide what is best for the whole and deprecating to think that consumers are not able to control the shape of industry via their market actions.  Perhaps the problem is that a pure free market capitalism is nowhere to be found while corporatism rules the day.  Politicians (mostly on the left) who seek power will always blame capitalism for all our economic ills despite the fact that actual capitalism hasn't existed in this country for generations.  Do not confuse capitalism with corporatism.

I'm surprised the habitually astute poster has fallen into such a yawning trap-door i.e. my views are not represented at electoral level and have therefore never been implemented: so my ideology does not have a concrete precedent available for scrutiny and cannot be judged to have either failed or succeeded.

Jeez, this is the rhetorical equivalent of the 'corporate veil' as utilised by bankrupt sole directors (my assets are in my wife's name and our family's have trust status for theirs so neither can be touched plus I am a separate legal entity distinct from my trading name so cannot be personally responsible.)

BTW It surely has occurred to you to run for election yourself, or is a Libertarian candidate something you feel should be provided for you ?

(I didn't vote, so send me to jail)

I did not vote. I think Capitalism is the system that all western countries are based on (and most of Asian countries too). The Scandinavian system is also Capitalism only with more restrictions (and I think it is better than the non regulated version in the US) but it is Capitalism. So what I think is that some changes will occur but the basis of the system is here to stay.
