let's just say it's a work in progress.. the site is a week old... the priority is getting them added.. then moving everything around. The site is album based... not group based like PA's. Which removes a cancer of this site... people getting their panties in a twist over placements of groups and polluting the site and atmosphere with their pissing and moaning... As I like to call it... the pounding of round bands into squre genres... too late to do it at PA's... but glad to see it happen there Edited by micky - April 03 2010 at 16:53 |

You do realise that the vast majority do not "piss and moan" as you call it and it is not a "cancer" To be quite honest it looks like the same old genre based format there too, to me. The only time we have real problems with genres is when non-Prog bands are shoe-horned into the system... |

.... it's mostly because during the initial artists/albums importation in the database (1 month ago) we tagged all albums with the main genre of the artists. As time goes by and more collaborators re-tag, re-classify the albums , it should (i hope) create less confusions (and crazy forum discussions) about the genre of an albums or an artists. And it will prove that this will be the next system also at PA. |

I think that, if now you're a member of MMA, you can voice those opinions there...

Which is fine and I look forward to that. But this is the #1 Prog Site on the internet, the #1 resource and I won't have anyone knock it just because they've now decided they're metal. Metal-Archives is new but it is populated with PA members. Let them remember that we will still be here when the real Metal fans arrive and see them off.... |

almost Tony... the only time we have problems is when people let their views on the eternal prog/not prog question cloud their better judgments and they forget this site is archival... and about the many different views of prog out there. What is non-prog to you... is often prog to others. What is this site about ... your views on prog... or giving everyone out there a means to express their views on prog. |

Let's also collaborate to make MMA as big a success as PA is... Metal, we have to agree, is a more popular genre, so eventually that site might (we hope so) become a big monster.. And it's better to start with the right foot from the beginning... And a few of those PA members there also qualify as "real Metal fans"...

So did Max just say PA is ending the genre teams being the ones to approve additions?
Please clarify Max. |

The forum is for expressing "different" views on Prog. The Collab Zone is for distilling those views and keeping what is useful, or should I say; it should be. |

It means that the genre teams now will be bickering over what albums belongs to their genre rather than what artists belongs to their genre ;-)
The artist classification will be deemed automatically from the classifications of the individual albums. In here, that will result in Genesis waving a heartfelt goodbye from the symphonic annals as an artist for instance, but will be represented in the genre with a few albums instead ;-) |

hmmm.. true... but have you all ever wondered why your collabs have been disappearing... either completely or retiring. For many this it is supposed to be fun... not a death match to make sure one's views on prog gain supremacy. expressing an opinion is one thing... seeing your opinion.. and work trashed in temper tantrums or personal attacks is only on PA's called...and condoned as 'expressing different views'. A handful of additions cause a stir the vast majority pass without comment. Of course if you can't handle debate... |

hahah... well... for me... as one of the few that can out-debate Ivan... nothing gets me hard like a good debate. However what is termed 'debate' is ...ahhaha... sort of what we are talking around isn't it. Let someone take a piss on your work here Tony and hide under 'just expressing' an opinion. Let's how that works out for you. Edited by micky - April 03 2010 at 17:55 |

Well, I have just after pointing it out here (actually I did a copy/paste), but now I'm dropping
It's amzing to see how a director of a unit or a department can be a metal fan although you'd never guess when he's at work.

OK, now I know how the place will work, but it certainly didn't seem obvious (since soo much has been a straight transfer from PA) and if not clearly explained.... there is no way we can suck it out of our thumbs, right??
The pissing and moaning was the result of the single genre problem, and since M@X told us this was going to happen to PA soon as well, things will become perfect at PA, so the moaning will stop >>> as the cancer growth is removed by skill (Firth Of Fifth) Edited by Sean Trane - April 03 2010 at 20:37 |

Never, since 95% of bands plays 1 unique genre in their entire existence, so. Instead or genre teams only arguing about a band, they'll also arguing about alums, sounds like more fun I think we will more and more team members to deal with that (kidding) Edited by M@X - April 03 2010 at 21:20 |

Judas Priest, Gillan, Whitesnake and Motorhead
Yeah, it's kind of like having Procol Harum, Moody Blues in crossver prog ... All four hit their creative peak as the NWOBHM movement was breaking big in the late 70s. So just as Jethro Tull went from Folk Rock or heavy rock on Aqualung to prog on TAAB an Passion Play, those four metal icons went from relative obscurity (gillan & coverdale could be said at the time to be living off past glories) to being the stars and major influences on the emerging scene. |

That black all over the forum is so sombre and dark
Geeez, that place (MMA) looks like PA, but no-one found the light switch yet >>> must be hidden somewhere
hint: it's in AC/DC 's section at flick of the switch
