We could of course go the other way Mr. Lemming - and include all the genres Lucas was kind enough to list into PA ;-)
If you'd prefer that :-) |

Lucas, if you have suggestions to make to the MMA site, perhaps you should register there and then do so... This is still ProgArchives, after all.

I understand that perfectly Dean but the reviewer will only feel they might exercise such a bias for specific reasons: 1 - A Prog artist making an album that could be considered contrary to or out-with an agreed progressive style (like you say a Pop album that if reviewed on a Pop site would not be requiring of any 'Prog/Jazz/Cajun/Skiffle/Calypso' bias) This dovetails into another niggle of mine that if say, the Osmonds made just one fully fledged Prog album, their entire discography is admitted. (but I've already posted on Prog Related and Proto on a per album basis before and I admit, it's not relevant for someone like Genesis) 2 - An artist classified as 100% Prog but in reality is tantamount to a sub genre of Metal. Here the bias of the prog reviewer is effectively created by PA placing the artist in what is IMO the wrong 'slot' I'm not tying to undermine the new site cos if ya loves metal, it's probably hog heaven and I wish it every success (shame I don't like metal but... hey ho) |

A better way of looking at it would be to take Close To The Fridge (or better still, Tales From Topogigio Oceans) to Rate Your Muzak or Amazon and review it not as a Prog Album, but as just another Rock album - that's the same as taking Images and Wuds to MMA and reviewing it not as a Prog album but as just another Metal album.

I don't see what's the problem here. All the discs listed in any of PA's metal subgenres will be in MMA, as they all are metal. And metal they are first and foremost, as we pretty much have agreed a long time ago. Taking reviews to MMA is only a matter of editing some content that may fit only in PA. I don't see any problem in overlapping either.... Let's remember "prog" is not a musical genre but an approach and a style; metal IS a more defined genre, boundaries, though difficult to establish, are easier to maintain than with prog.

It think it is much easier to say what it metal than what is prog.

yep.... couldn't agree more.. It's metal... or it's not. Unlike Prog.. which has a definition unique to each listener.. and which needs a site to reflect that diversity...metal is a specific.. and rather well defined genre. Prog was a musical movement.. with all the colors of the rainbow.. metal is shades of the same color. |
