I put off registering on PA for years because I knew the reviewing would completely absorb me.
And that's exactly what it did and I'm afraid it won't stop till I'm through with my vaults.
I think it's called "obsessive completism". A not uncommon prog-disease I think Smile

So yes, I tend to write my reviews off-line and then post them in batches, never thought it would bother anyone really.
3 months more patience and I'll be through with it !
cheers,
karl

Just want to chime in that Pablo's (The Quiet One) reviews have really caught my eye lately.   Great work Pablo!  Clap

Also Bonnek deserves kudos for the combination of quality and prolific pace.  Clap

^ Excellent MDK review, Pablo. I mean it!
One of the best I've read (of this album).

^ I don't see anything wrong with that short review. There are quite a few spelling/grammar errors but we've all had those. LOL

I say keep it. Wink

My point is that, besides of the stars, I cannot make tails or head out of the text.

.........which reminds me about some of my own ramblings.

^We all had our share of rambling reviews LOL
This review is quite short but that's something that might be considered a byproduct of the site's rules of the time. I've even found one of my early reviews that I would have loved to edit and there are probably a few more like this out there.

According to my personal calculation 104 out of my current 326 reviews need too be re-written which is something that I've have preoccupied myself with for the last couple of weeks. If you look at my complete review list sorted Chronologically almost everything from Liquid Tension Experiment reviews and downwards has to be re-written. Embarrassed

That reminds me; I actually reviewed the wrong Wallenstein album a year ago. EmbarrassedHow did I manage to do that ? I need to rectify that mistake and review the correct one. It has been added to my spring cleaning list.

Should there be some kind of limit set on the percentage of 5-star reviews that an individual can assign? Just musing...

Interesting idea. Do you think that my:

5 STARS - 30%
4 STARS - 47%
3 STARS - 16%
2 STARS - 40 pieces
1 STARS - 7 ratings

is a lot, or is it OK ?

There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

No, I don't think there should be any limits - I chose to review only the albums I love - I have no desire or inclination to review average albums or albums I don't like. If percentage limits were applied I would be "forced" to go and review some 1, 2, & 3 star albums and I don't think that would be fair.
What?

Dean,

That's a good point. When I read a member's series of 2-star reviews on a given artist, I do wonder why they are persisting with the artist. However I think it's important for the site that we don't simply get to read reviews of albums that people love. I respect your choice to do that though.  The PA guidelines suggest using 5- (and 1-) star ratings sparingly. I realise these are only guidelines however.

Everyones' album collection is skewed towards the 3½, 4 & 5 star end since most of us are not in the habit of buying bad albums (or at least albums we don't like). I stopped buying Genesis after Duke, Yes after Going For The One and Moody Blues after... Ermm... the one after Every Good Boy Deserves Favour... Wink

Marty,

I'm not judging other people's ratings/reviews. It's just something I wanted to discuss. You could do more 3-star reviews though, you're a bit light there Wink

Thirty years ago, I thought Chicago's Hot Street album was the top of sophistication and musical developments. So I bought it and loved it. I reviewed this cassette again some months ago and gave it two stars. In many cases, two or one stars is the product of errors we once made. Ouch That's one year ago, ten years ago or thirty years ago. It is better to owe up to them as reviews in PA than in the crimes against humanity court in Hague, Holland. Wink
