Topic: Drone, Ambient, Noise, Post-Rock-Punk Posted: March 27 2010 at 03:11 |
I do enjoy some bands like Sunn O))), Khanate, Earth, Boris, Pelican, Cult Of Luna etc. Drone music is hard to get use to in general but when you start to like it's really an interesting genre with its various bands.
I love mostly Dark Ambient as in ambient-atmospheric black metal bands, but there is some that makes only ambient. Noisy music is often mixed with krautrock due to the elements they share but there is lots of differences too. I remind Swans when the talking issue is noise rock. What's your favourite bands in these genres?

I picked up an album by Oren Ambarchi. Almost blew my $500 speakers when he started playing lower than E2...
Then I went and saw him in concert, repeat the previous with my eardrums.

Natural Snow Buildings is in my opinion Drone perfected. Even though it's a different kind of Drone than, say, Sunn O))). It has more Folk influences. Check out the album The Dance of the Moon and The Sun. Shadow Kingdom is also a great one.

Some favourites in the genres mentioned:
Swans Sunn 0))) A Place to Bury Strangers (go see them live!) Tim Hecker The Chameleons Boris Stars of the Lid Have a Nice Life
That's a very random list, but it's got some noisy stuff, some drone/ambient and post-punk.
This is the type of music I mostly listen to right now.

One of my favourite metal bands of all time is Neurosis, the founding fathers of Post-Metal.

Spectacular band, those Chameleons. I'm scratching my head at what they have to do with the other ones (except for Swans, since they're both from the 80s and thus amazing).
