Interesting. My banner ad says, "Would you save a world that doesn't want you in it?" |

@Teo - doctors, hospitals, and service providers are definitely running under a capitalist model. Some make crazy amounts of money. Certainly pharmaceutical companies get alot of press for their profits as well. It's not just insurance companies. And we doctors complain and moan about it all the time but personal injury attorneys are part of the economics of medicine.
I'm with you that I'm not a fan of the capitalist model of health care. It's just not something that operates under market principles. Almost all except the simply ridiculously wealthy really aren't able to reasonably comparison shop for their care. When you add in the disconnect that the employers are the ones buying health coverage but the workers are the ones using it, free market principles aren't able to choose for efficient, quality care.
ed. My banner ad is for Final Fantasy....hmmm. Edited by Negoba - March 24 2010 at 15:05 |

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

So I'm watching Countdown With Keith Olberman (on personal leave his Dad just died). Barney Frank was just on to discuss all the threats that some Representatives and Senators are getting for voting for health reform. He said the doesn't get many death threats, mostly after death threats.
If you haven't been following the news the teabaggers have become really sore losers. The Dems in the Senate have been smacking down Reps attempts at final derailment of reconciliation through amendment abuse. Fox Noise, which spent so much time and effort smearing the legislation could only be bothered with a few seconds of coverage for the Presidential signing. As people are getting the facts about what is actually in the legislation, public approval ratings are going up. Edited by Slartibartfast - March 24 2010 at 19:33 |

Agreed, there's some real a****les out there, but to be honest it's the whole "winning/losing" environment of modern American politics that's leaving a bad taste in my mouth. |

yeah these people are basically inciting assassination, and if there's a serious incident of violence, I want them all to stand-up and take a small amount of responsibility .. which of course they won't (except for the really crazy ones proudly bearing their Glock 22s and "Don't Tread on Me" flags)

Bill on Fox just asked a Democrat what government entity levies the fine against non-compliant citizens, and the politician gave no direct answer.

The bit of 'rebellion' that strikes me as the most pointless is the call to ignore the census, which is basically shooting yourself in the foot when it comes to how federal funds will be allocated.

Did I mention that his Mother was hamster and his Father smelt of elderberries?
Did I mention that MSNBC did fire Phil Donahue for not supporting the Iraq war. Doesn't that make you happy? Edited by Slartibartfast - March 24 2010 at 20:36 |

Just read about the Rep who got a gas line cut - it was from the propane tank to his outdoor grill. I mean, you can really be disappointed, even disgusted with the new bill, but give me a fracking break. |

^Funny how the massive number of physical threats, acts of vandalism and racist slurs directed towards Republicans doesn't get so much media attention, isn't it
I'm not justifying bad behavior by pointing to other bad behavior, I'm merely pointing out that both sides have violent extremists that don't speak for the vast majority of their party. Only one side gets mentioned in the media though. |

I think your trouble is that you're viewing health care as a right, and also not distinguishing between care and the means to pay for it. Insurance is a business and people need to realize this. It does not exist so that you can pay for healthcare. It exists to make money, where the particular service provided mitigates health costs. Profit serves as an indication of where to allocate resources to industries, and as a general metric signifies that a company is functioning properly (when the profit is procured through voluntary exchange). I hesitated posting the article actually because I knew that phrase would be used like that. Don't ever think you posses some sort of moral superiority when you advocate that money should be coercively taken from one group to benefit another. That is hardly fulfilling any sort of obligation or acting selflessly on your part. We certainly have obligations towards each other, but government cannot fulfill them although people certainly try to pass such obligations onto government.
