im for his inclusion. My Spanish Heart, The Mad Hatter, and the last 2 Elektric Band albums (Paint the World (IMO one of the best Jazz-fusion albums ever made!), and To The Stars) are sufficient enough material for him to be in JRF.

Elektric Band is already here, so we wouldn't be adding/counting them twice. While people can be happy with four-five albums for an inclusion, I wouldn't feel so comfortable (it's just my way of perspective: the "one album and your in" policy is something I disagree with and always will). I've already said it, it's four-five albums out of an prolific discography, and they're not all fully representative. |

I'm very comfortable with it. Although I have been somewhat uncomfortable with the complete discography policy, and would quite like a prog albums category for bands/ artists who have not made their careers out of Prog to highlight suitable albums, at least, it is good if the albums that should most interest proggers are highlighted in the biography. A good, well-researched bio should get into that. Of course sometimes bands are being evaluated on very limited material, and there isn't a wealth of info to make that call. Add to that that what is Prog, or would interest Proggers, can be in the ear of the beaherer. Of course that's a problem with not including complete discographies (endless bickering about what should be included/ what has sufficient merits). Then, hopefully, the reviews also will highlight the perceived prog-quotient of albums.
And I'd rather we judge placement based on those albums that are deemed particularly relevant to a Prog site. Edited by Logan - July 03 2009 at 13:53 |

i didnt know that ![]() i think if we did have a "prog-albums-only" policy, it would have to be a rounded out system, meaning, 2-3 albums leading to X band's "prog-era" and 2-3 albums after their "prog-era" i say this because there may be some prog gems on either albums before or after their "prog-era" and this would allow people to choose which ones to get rather than getting an album that came out 20 years after X band's "prog-era" with no signs of prog rock. but thats if we had that system. just felt like throwing that out there |

Did not see that, I only have Light Years by the Elekric Band, which is rather sappy. Again I'll point to My Spanish Heart and the solo album called Return To Forever.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Strictly Corea-related, all I fear is for PA to express something a lot different than most sites, who see him more as a jazz artist. Furthermore, such sites have the capacity to highlight all the sides of Corea's music, while PA, by definition, would split up the phases, the styles or such, focusing on the little that was proper for addition. |

Chick has more than 4 fusion albums:
The Leprechaun My Spanish Heart The Mad Hatter Secret Agent Tap Step Again & Again The Ultimate Adventure I think these only deserve an inclusion + Chick was one of the developers of fusion.... I think there is no question about that.... |

RTF, Corea Electrik Band, Lenny White, Stanley Clarke and Al Dimeola are all here.
The JR team decided not to add solo Corea because the full discog rule would bring on too many pure jazz and avant-jazz records. We get a lot of flak for adding artists that bring more old jazz records on the site, otherwise we would probably add other progressive fusion artists such as Freddie Hubbard, Donald Byrd, Herbie Mann, George Benson, Gato Barbieri, John Klemmer and some more I'm not thinking of right now. For the Electrik Band to be here and not individually for My Spanish Heart makes no sense to me. I've said my peace/piece. |

Dude, I explained why in the above post. We get flak from the big boys on this site for bringing jazz albums on the site via the full discog rule. Electrik band was a clever compromise on my part. I'm proud of my work even if you aren't. ![]() ![]() |

I understand...but fusion without Chick (Mad Hatter, My Spanish Heart, etc.) is like symph prog without Genesis or folk prog without The Strawbs....It just doesn't make sense ![]() anyway... congrats for the Electrik Band move ![]() |
