Jimmy Page for me. I find Fripp's playing spectacularly uninteresting.

As good as Fripp is, Page IMO plays the guitar better and with more emotion which beats technicality any day.

oooh I don't know about that-- the fact that Fripp can play blues, along with every other guitar player in the world with a few years (or less) of experience, doesn't mean he can play like Page by a long shot. Let's give credit where it's due please: Page is a Blues master, his tattered slop just part of the magic, and he and Plant wouldn't have it any other way. Is Rembrandt a 'better' painter than Van Gogh? Is gourmet dining 'better' than southern barbecue?

I really don't like it when people are comparing listening to music and a plate of food. There's nothing abstract about food, and the only things you can actually evaluate is texture, taste and how healthy it is! And "taste", obviously, is a question of taste! Music is much more abstract and communicative, and there's almost a limitless amount of elements you could evaluate. There's emotion, energy, originality, movement, structure, harmony, rhythm, intensity and the aforementioned texture and taste... just to name a few! We think in all of these levels. To say my musical enjoyment comes down to taste is an insult to the way the mind works!

Pages guitar talent lies in his arrangements rather than his playing. Fripp is at least as good in arrangements, but is a much better player. Both have their quirks: Page has his infamous slop (which I wish he would not have done), Fripp goes for whiney tones (which sometimes makes me leave the room). In the final assessment, Fripp rips Page to shreds.

Led Zeppelin are my favourite band and a large part of that appeal boils down to Page's fantastic riffs. He's a fine soloist too and although he can be a bit sloppy I preffer him to the undoubtedly excellent Fripp. Fripp it has to be said is technically superior though.

I think that's praising Fripp a bit too highly. I can't find a single piece of guitar work by him that makes me think "God that's good". Generally I think "what the **** is this guy trying to do?". Page is generally pretty good on record but was quite sloppy live. I'll abstain on this one.

This is a pointless poll!!! First of all, in terms of artists, one should never state who is better, but, who is your favourite, instead. Second, what's the point of comparing two guitarists of two different styles? I would understand a poll between Page and Blackmore, Clapton or Beck. It's the same thing as trying to compare Mozart with Coltrane, jeezz. Sorry about my rant, but this is simply annoying and irrelevant s*it that just drives people away from the forum and the good and interesting posts that sometimes tend to appear.

They really cannot be compared to each other, can they.
On pure personal taste, I vote for His Robertness. I love Zep studio, but always found Page shocking live.

Fripp, easily. I've got almost all of Zep's records but never really got into them.

I have to say Page. Fripp may be a better technician, but he's less fun to listen to.

Holy Fr*pp
Gave him my vote as well.
A real good question would be Frith or Fripp.

Two very different styles, both play in a very different manner.
Fripp adds to the band unique substance, while Page is the lead instrument in Led Zep.
Who is the better? I have no doubt, even not being a guitarist, that Fripp is the better one.
Who is my fave? Can't say, like I said , both very different styles of playing which are great in their own way.
