SIN Angry

It's because you don't like the American Avant movement near as much. It has no connections to RIO whatsoever (again, which is why I want a genre split).

Uh, I'm well aware of that.

I heard some tracks of Weasels Rip My Flesh and they were pretty good.  Might pick that one up.

I wasn't trying to be rude or condescending.

Well, what exactly do you see in his music, Alex?  I will admit that I've really liked what I've heard from Mirror Man though.

Let's just say that Trout Mask Replica is one of THOSE albums to me. If I had to form what I believed to be the top 10 most important albums of all time in music (let alone prog, much like the PA Top 100), that album would be there.

The abstract, genius poetry combined with the genius of the record never fails to move me in every composition every time I hear that album. Totally changed my perspective on music. I could only imagine how groundbreaking it sounded in 1969.
I don't own any Beefheart albums, but I have heard significant portions of TMR and others, and I have to strongly disagree with you here. Schoenberg, Berg, Webern, Ives, Varese, Stockhausen, John Cage, Ornette Coleman, Coltrane, Albert Ayler, Eric Dolphy, Cecil Taylor, Sun Ra, Archie Shepp, Anthony Braxton, Peter Brotzmann, Evan Parker, and AMM all made their major statements before 1969, and all of them are more avant-garde and I think more important than Beefheart. I'm not trying to say he wasn't creative, because that's obviously not true and I can't name an album before 1969 that sounds exactly like TMR, but the problem is that almost everybody who has written a review for TMR here is almost completely ignorant of avant-garde music and so thinks "cacophony" is unprecedented, with some going so far as to say that Beefheart was just trying to make it unlistenable. When, in fact, Beefheart's psycho blues rock is a natural extension of Ornette's psycho blues jazz (and Free Jazz was recorded in 1963).

You of all people should know that I'm aware of that. Wink

I'm not one to argue that Beefheart's sound was innovative in terms of that. In fact, the 60s were an incredibly good decade for jazz and avant-garde music. I wouldn't say it was groundbreaking in terms of presenting a totally new sound or cacophony, but an innovative unique mix of many influences that resulted in something that to this day I haven't quite heard matched.

Awesome.

It's one of those holidays that means absolutely nothing to me though. I have absolutely NO Irish blood, and I don't drink, and I have not a single piece of green clothing. Tongue

I have 2160 bands/artists that I have listened to on last.fm.  535 of them are bands/artists that I have only listened to 1 song from. LOL

I'm shocked to see I have only 1.166 artists in my database.

But I don't think I have more than 30 artists with just 1 hit. Artists that are real, I mean, not:

John Abercrombi
Edgar Frpese
Collegium Misicum
Copia di 01
Bosch's With Your
Dream Theater
James Yeowell (featuring Darren Hunt)

Also, I could make good use of a holiday that doesn't involve me at all, and have a glass of Jameson. Approve

For one, I get a free daily download from eMusic each day so there are a lot of bands/artists that that is the only song I have from them.  Also, since I listen to a lot of various artist albums like soundtracks or tribute albums or compilation albums there are a number of artists on those where I only have 1 song from.  There are a bunch of crazy ones in there too though like "Wayne and Garth" from Wayne's World.

Yeah, I remember. Though that's when I was proving that AC were actually good and that was the one track that kept staying in my head and I was enjoying it. Wink

Good times. LOL

Oh, that's understandable.

My last.fm library doesn't crack 300, but that's because they're all the bands that I have in my collection. I've heard alot more, but not full albums that are in my burned CD collection.

ORLY. Most of the replies were "what the hell is that", so I thought that was the consensus you were aiming for.

No, I just thought it'd be a funny prank. LOL

The reason I thought of it is because that was the only track I was listening to the entire morning, pretty much. It's that time that made me realize I needed a different listen when I didn't have a headache and wasn't completely stressed out.

That, and I never listen to music.

But I could be on last.fm for 50 years and I won't have > 2000 artists.
