Oh, I understand. Your views sound a lot like Libertarianism. |
Yeah, that's the closest political faction to what I believe, but I still don't like to associate myself with other libertarians. I believe when you align yourself with labels then you lose some of your individualistic autonomy at the sacrifice of agreeing with someone else or some sort of basic set of beliefs. The closest I ever come to any beliefs I have on alot of subject matters is to Ayn Rand's works and Objectivism. I'd say that's maybe the closest "established" set of rules/understanding/beliefs of either political or religious nature that you could find that anything comes to being what I believe. Despite that, I do do not call myself an Objectivist nor do I limit myself to those philosophies. I just think what I want to think; I'd like to say it's not able to be categorized into anything other than what constitutes "Alex Browne".

I think that may be it too, but I'm unsure. I don't recall ever wanting to use that in any of my reviews.

What's a "major"? Is it the bachelor's degree?

Nothing. I'm just saying that all of those majors are extremely limiting and often not too practical unless you specifically want to go into a specific thing. In the United States, having a degree in Political Science or Philosophy (at least in my opinion), pretty much gets you nowhere in terms of actual jobs. Unless you want to be a politician or a college professor. It's the same type of thing with music and art majors. You typically end up either joining the symphony orchestra, teaching at a college, or something that doesn't particularly lead to a relatively successful position. I joke about it because you could still do all those things without the degree, making the piece of paper sort of useless. I mean it teasingly in a friendly way though.

As I said in my previous post: What can you do with a philosophy major? IMO, the whole point of going to college is to get an education and therefore excel in a potential career with a major that you couldn't do before the education. I love music, but I would never be a music major. Just because you love something doesn't mean it has to be in every part of your life.

It's an area of study. You can get a bachelor's degree in your major, or continue on to get a master's, PhD, or whatever else.

Bachelor's degrees in Philosophy/Political Science/Music are a stepping stone to Law School or Medical School.

Unless you want to be stuck to teaching at university or becoming a politician without any other flexibility of options, nothing.

I actually do agree with you on the Music major, and I probably won't be a Philosophy major either. The thing that I'm most interested in that's also practical is probably technology.
