Yep and if they make anything like that fantastic City of Evil album Iīll be more than thrilled. People can say what they want about Avenged Sevenfold but thatīs one great album. I hope Mike adds some progressive touches to the new one.

I like Waking the Fallen and City of Evil, but the last seemed bland as hell(to my taste anyways). I'm not sure what to think about this.

I agree. Avenged Sevenfold certainly isn't one of my favorites these days, but The Rev's death was tragic. Anyone dying at only 28 is tragic. It's very nice of Mike Portnoy, stepping up to assist some fans in need.

I read that a few days ago...He is playing drums on their new album, paying homage to the deceased drummer. I saw A7X on the Taste of Chaos tour 2/3 yrs ago.....took my son and a few of his friends. A 42 yr old in the mosh pit...that was AWESOME!
They put on a pretty good show....don't follow that music but it was good.

That's some pretty cool news there. My brother's an A7X fan and he played me some of their stuff. Not bad at all. He likes DT as well. So when he found out MP is recording with them, he just about fainted!

That's what he gets for signing with Roadrunner.
But as long as this doesn't interfere with Transatlantic, whatever.

Why does Mike want to play with A7X? I mean their singer is all whiney.... and the music is cheesy.... and the guitarist blatantly overuses those sweep arpeggios..... and their fans are all so annoying.... Wait.... Seriously though, I think Portnoy is wasting his time with them. Not a good band in my opinion. However, I will admit that I actually enjoy Beast and the Harlot. Especially compared to their early albums' music which were like taking hardcore and soaking it in vinegar for a month till it was limp.

I've never even listened to them, but why all this hate response? Mike says he's a fan, and that he enjoyed playing with them. If that's what he wanted to do, then he has the right to do that. People need to lay off.
Jeez, you'd think just because they have a lot of status, their fans think they know what's best for the band members more than the band members themselves do.
I said it was cool news, because I knew their drummer was dead. Seems like a good thing that somebody as technically capable as Mike would be willing to step in. I have no idea what they sound like, but I always think it's cool when musicians join forces.

Well if you want a recommendation take a listen to City of Evil. Especially the second part of the album have lots of progressive elements. The singer might be a bit too emo for most people but he is extremely talented. Wow just take a listen to those vocal harmonies he pulls off on City of Evil. Iīve had that album on steady rotation since it was released. Itīs not more than a couple of days ago since my last listen. Itīs actually really strange as Iīm not usually a fan of this kind of music. Well.. Iīve taken a listen to the rest of their discography and itīs still only City of Evil that Iīm interested in.

My friend just introduced me to them with a few songs from their City of Evil album and at first I thought, I'll find them on Pa, because they sounded like progressive metal to me. Allthough I don't like the EMO mainstream singing, I still find it better tham metal growlign, which I can barely stand. I noticed some cool eclectism in the track Sidewinder.
