My Wife's Niece is Missing!

There has been a ton of new exposure due to the Chelsea King case. (We even saw a newspaper article from Australia!) So much so we will probably start up searches again next weekend.  Carrie, Amber's mother, has been on Larry King, Nancy Grace, Good Day America and The Today show in the last two days.  Mo, Amber's father, held a press conference right after the DA's did yesterday at the San Diego Court House.  As of today we have no physical evidence linking Gardener to Amber.  

That being said I feel so bad for the King family. This has to be impossibly hard for them. 

I hate to add a semi political statement here but this really bothers me.  In California 20 years ago we spent 17% of our budget on education and 3% on our prison system. Today we spend 9% on education and 10% on the prison system and while we can raise tuition 33% to our universities and Colleges  raise class size by 10 more students per teacher in our k-12 schools and cut music and the arts from our education system  without a bat of the eye we can't seem to keep track of the most violent of our criminals after we release them back into society.  In fact our beloved governor has just said he will be releasing thousands of short time prisoners back into society.  Either we are putting people in prison who have no business being there causing major over crowding or we have tremendously broken system that doesn't seem to be able to right itself. This does not start or end in California either. 

The reason I bring this up is that  John Gardener had three separate addresses he lived in since being released from prison in 2006.  Yet Megan's law states the sex offender must register every time they move. Not one agency bothered to follow up on this in 4 years.  I find that absolutely irresponsible. A beautiful, smart, talented life has been snuffed out because we didn't follow up.  

RIP Chelsea and I am so sorry we failed you.
