Remedy Lane was my first exposure to Pain of Salvation. I pretty much really like everything that they did up until Scarsick. Unfortunately, Scarsick is a very angry album. It sounds like Gildenow spent entirely too much time on-line talking to Henry Plainview. Or maybe Yoda "Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. I sense much fear in you."

Never listened to Be. Maybe I should but I read both good and bad reviews. And I decide to listen to an album, only if all reviews are positive. Besides, I am not a completist, 4 solid albums by a prog-metal band is enough for me.

Anyway, I listen to a collection of old songs that were released only 20 years after they were recorded. It's a bit strange when you know that it is as good, if not better than their another albums.

I kind of got bored of these unending solos and improvisations on the National Health compilation of previously unreleased material. So I skipped to something reinvigorating : Waltari, a band that deserves more attention from the metal world (easily comparable to Mike Patton or Steve Morse in term of versatility/eclectism).

Mine is a copy for promotional use only, so I guess it's a rare copy !

My opinion will likely take multiple listens to form for this one. Wink

Although I can say that the vocals sometimes (like on the last track) are just laughably ridiculous.

I felt the same way when I first got Remedy Lane. That was my first PoS album, and after I bought it I listened to it 3 or 4 times, and then just put it away for good. I really didn't like it at all.

When I decided to re-listen to it one day, my opinion completely changed, and I was listening to it constantly. It definitely is a grower, and it takes a few dedicated listens to understand the concept and music. I still much prefer TPE and Be, though.

I think Pain of Salvation is closer to Faith No More in the treatment of vocals, than your usual prog-metal, and this is a good thing as it differentiates them from other generic prog metal bands. Therefore being into crossover metal bands (FNM, Biohazard...) helps liking Pain Of Salvation...

Gildenlow is one of the rare vocalists to switch easily from low to high pitch.
