Finished :
Los Lobos - Kiko. This band had a hit with "la bamba" but this album is more adventurous, blending various styles and offering something very eclectic.
Now : TOTO - the seventh one
Probably my favourite TOTO album. Joseph Williams, the son of the composer of Star Wars movie soundtrack (!), was a good choice after the "firing" of Fergie Frederiksen (you know, drugs, Fergie was notwithstanding an exceptional vocalist). The musicianship is astonishing, the choirs are well executed, Jeff's drumming is a welcome return to the "jazz-rock" sound of TOTO IV, David plays with whole his heart, Steve delivers some very emotional guitar solos (especially on " a thousand years").
You may think whatever you want of this band, it's probably the only AOR band that never cared for trends and always played the music they wanted to play.
Jeff's death in 1992 was one of the greatest tragedies in the history of rock music.

Read along to the lyrics this time. This album is absolutely one of DT's best in awhile. Now chilling out to the Disc 2 covers album. Fun listen. I like their interpretations and I am impressed with LaBrie's range and ability to sound like Ronnie James Dio, Freddy Mercury, and Bruce Dickinson, three of the best in the business.

After the excellent 'Seventh One', I skipped to another great TOTO album, this time with Fergie Frederiksen on vocals (what a voice, could have been hired by DT to replace Charlie Dominici !) :

Well that is just not right. I can be the only one to listen to this album today. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did, or at least more than Pablo does.

Cool! I am now on to Disc three, the instrumental versions. The instrumentals stand alone OK on their own, but the lyrics and vocals definitely enhance the songs to make them make more sense.

They are prog-related in the sense that each of their members played with prog artists/bands. However, overall, they are not really prog or prog-related (they have one or two prog tunes on most of their albums, but that's all). They are like a less jazzy/more melody-oriented Steely Dan (a band in which Jeff Porcaro played).
Speaking of SD, I am currently listening to their masterpiece :
