So I thought I would see what everyones first concert ever was. Who got you into music? Also list other signifigant shows...this should be a pretty cool thread given the diverstiy of people on this forum.

First Concert:
The Jackson 5 in 1976.

I was in 1st grade, and it was a birthday present. Went with my parents. Not to be racist ,but I firmly believe we were the only white people in there! It was very cool, and I remember that I could not see over the people in front, so this really tall guy put me on his shoulders for a while. I have vivd memories of holding onto his huge Afro and watching the show

First rock concert:
Kansas - Vinyl Confessions tour 1980

This was the show that sealed the deal for me to persue a career as a performer.

First concert on my own:
Iron Maiden/Judas Preist - the # of The Beast/Screaming For Vengance tour

no adults. Huge group of friends. 8th row seats. HOLY CRAP!!!

"Just Desserts" concerts:
1. was at a show here in town where Nirvana opened up for Prong, and Nirvana got booed out of the club. Nobody knew who they were. We thought they were a crappy local act. they got chased out to their van...
2. on the Chilli Peppers Blood,Sugar,Sex Magic tour here in town Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins were the opening acts, and also got booed off the stage. People were throwing stuff at the Smashing Pumpkins by their 3rd song....

Iv'e got sXe!!!

My first is a bit embarrasing.

It was a concert called Edgefest held at the Molson Amphitheater in Toronto during the summer of 2001.  The headlining  band was Blink-182.  The other bands on the bill included New Found Glory, Sum-41, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Jimmy Eat World, and Project Wyse.  I was 16 years old.  I actually had a good time though since it was my first legit concert experience.  Plus my sister might have payed for my ticket, and I never went to another concert with that many females in the audience again. LOL

My second concert is what I would consider to be the most significant show I've been to as it turned me on to 2 great bands.  It was the following summer at the same venue, and Dream Theater and Joe Satriani were co-headlining.  I went for Satch, but Dream Theater made the biggest impression.

The other band I was introduced to was the opening act, King's X.  Their sound was very much dominated by the bass in the mix and uneven, as expected for most openers, but performed well given the conditions.  I remember they played "We Were Born To be Loved" and it sounded great.   Some time after the concert, I picked up a copy of Gretchen Goes To Nebraska on cassette and was hooked.

My first concert was Steve Vai in Fargo ND, in 2005 I believe, it was the Real Illusions tour, when he still had Tony Macalpine in the band.  My first prog concert was this years Prog Nation tour in Minneapolis, MN.

I think my first concert was Sean Lennon in 2005. My father knew the girl who warmed him up so even though I didn't like him that much I went, and I enjoyed! One of the main reasons I went was also that he is, of course, the son of John Lennon...

My first prog, or progarchives gig, was, waiiiiiiiiiiiit for it.................. *DRUM ROLLLLLLLLLLL* Boom pash boo boo boom pash stagdish stagadoosh stagadish stagarararararararrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrdrashpaboom. LED ZEPPELIN!!!!!!!!!
I signed up for the tickets with my dad and it was almost impossible because the site was blasted! We managed to sign up but a few days afterward we got the e-mail that says you didn't get in. I was sad, but I moved on. I was playing Guitar Hero the next day, and I hear the phone ring. I'm in the middle of One's guitar solo on online co-op and I really don't wanna fail so I keep playing, but then I understand I'm addicted to the game and should at least take a break to answer a phone call! So I answer, and the first thing I hear is: "Pack your stuff son, we're going to London."

Man that concert was awesome!
Trendsetter win!

The search for nonexistent perfection.

First concert: I suppose a classical concert, as a kid, with my parents. I went to quite some classical concerts with them. Maybe somewhere in 1975.

First rock concert: Rainbow in... 1982 or something. My friends at school were into hard rock / heavy metal and I liked some of the stuff: mostly from the more progressive bands. I don't remember the Rainbow concert being good: just very noisy.

First prog concert: Genesis in 1987. I had discovered them via a rock encyclopedia, and I had no friends who were into prog, so I went all alone to the concert (the first and only time that I did that). It was a bit disappointing.

First real prog concert: Pink Floyd in 1988. A friend asked me to go with him and I was very impressed.

First concert  - Glasgow Apollo 1978 Eddie & the Hot Rods supported by Radio Stars (the Hot Rods bass player broke a string which I've never seen a bass player do subsequently)

First Prog show  - Peter Gabriel at Glasgow Apollo just after his debut solo album was released (I read somewhere that Robert Fripp played on that tour but was hidden from view 'off stage' - can't say I recognised his playing, so probably apocryphal)

Mine was Deep Purple in the Stadthalle Bremen, Germany in 1973, just after they released 'Who Do We Think We Are'. Mark II lineup.

Damndest thing: Rainbow didn't exist yet, and had a big rainbow spanning the stage. Weird. Now it's one of those WTF! memories.

First gig: Rasmus in 1997, the pop rock band of today around their second album, which had a wild blend of funk, metal, reggae, hip hop and whatnot. Brilliant stuff.

First big gig: Bruce Dickinson solo gig in 2002, I was a massive Maiden fan at the time and this was almost a dream come true. The dream did come true next summer when I saw Maiden in full force for the first time.

First prog gig: Probably the two nights of Opeth I saw in 2005 supporting Ghost Reveries. Though the Wigwam gig I saw that year might have been before that... And I'm not sure whether the first Dream Theater concert I saw was before of after the Opeth dates, there was just few days difference.

The best gigs: Two nights of Sigur Rós in late 2005 supporting Takk..., one sitting down, the other from the front row. I laughed, I cried, it was absolutely unbelievable. And the night after the second gig I got together with my girlfriend, who had already joined me to all of the 2005 gigs mentioned above.

Yes Dean you're right, both concerts must have been 1977 (as I'm sure I saw the Hot Rods prior to Gabriel)
