The new Nick Magnus CD "Children Of Another God" is due for release in mid-March.
Similar to his previous album "Hexameron", this offering will feature contributions by vocalists Pete Hicks and Tony Patterson, Steve Hackett, and John Hackett among others.
Check out Nick's website for further details.
Personally, I loved Hexameron, which evoked great memories of the Spectral Mornings/Defector era Steve Hackett band sound. I can't wait to hear what Nick has in store this time round!

Richard, Which one do you like? This will be Nick's 4th solo album (Straight On Till Morning, Inhaling Green, Hexameron). |

I have now ordered Hexameron from http://www.caminorecords.co.uk/ I also ordered John Hackett's solo album Checking Out Of London and Ian McDonald's solo album Driver's Eyes while I was at it (both of which feature Steve Hackett!!) If I enjoy Hexameron, I will order Children Of Another God too later. The two earlier Nick Magnus albums seems to be hard to find. What are they like? |

The earlier albums are instrumental. Of the two, I'd have to say I prefer Inhaling Green.
Straight On... features several short compositions. Reasonably standard fare. Much of it sounds like pieces written for film/TV. Inhaling sees Nick venture into some longer works including the 16 minute title track. The composition is getting more adventurous, with some "new age" flourishes. I don't think either of them sound quite as full, warm, and well produced as Hexameron but they definitely have their moments. John Hackett's album was, for me, a grower. I wasn't immediately taken with it but after several listens it got me. The first track - Late Trains - is excellent. I haven't heard Ian McDonald's album. I'll definitely need to seek it out! |

I have now listened to Hexameron several times and it hasn't really impressed me yet, though I find it enjoyable. The title track from the new album, on the other hand, I have played a lot and really like! I have pre-ordered the new album.... Edited by SouthSideoftheSky - March 11 2010 at 16:38 |
