Going to see the magicians tonight at Warner Theater in DC! Oliver Wakeman, the spawn of the magical firedemon summoned from deep inside mordor, will take over the white and black, a still tall and ogre like chris squire will play bass...canada's finest interpreter for the singing, alan white on drums...and behold...
TIS THEE ELVEN TUNE SMITH on guitar, Mr. Steven Howe! Can't wait! Anybody else seeing them?

I saw them at Town Hall in NYC last night. It's the 3rd time I've seen this lineup, and they just keep getting better every time!

Make sure you don't take a bathroom break during Steve Howe's acoustic solo - he brought the house down, everyone was floored by his performance!

That's less of a curse then you think. Also, I'd pick Yes over snow anyday :)

Indeed - especially since I've been stuck at home for almost 10 days because of the snow, and those concert tickets cost me quite a bit of money. I really hope you & Micky make it tonight. There really is nothing worse than having a cherished gig cancelled because of weather, illness, or some other calamity. If you get there, let us all know how you consider the new lineup, and whether sceptics such as myself are simply wrongWink

OK, the snow stopped, but we are not going anywayUnhappy. Micky came back from work sick, and I don't want him to get any worse, especially since he missed the whole of last week at work because of the weather. It seems we were not fated to see Yes during this tour... Hopefully we'll get to see them if they tour in support of the new album.

That's a shame Disapprove Hope Micky feels better! Smile

I saw Yes over the summer, and they put together a pretty good show. I really hope the new lineup can create a great album. They definitely played well together on stage, and I really hope they can do that in the studio as well. Have you heard any news about the album? I haven't heard any details yet....

That really is too bad Raff.  You and Micky just aren't having much luck with seeing them.  Tell Micky to take two aspirin and man up and take you to the show. Wink

No chance, Scott - he's got a temperature, and would not enjoy the show in the shape he's in. I'm sorry for him, because he was the one who had never seen them - and they're his favourite band, at least in prog. Oh, well, such things happen....

I figured that he must be feeling pretty lousy to miss out on his buddy Chris Squire and company.  In that case, have him take two aspirin and get lots of rest.

Very very interesting night seeing yes in dc.
For starters....although steve howe might be the most motionless object i've ever seen...my god, he might as well been flying tonight consider the sound coming out of his amp. He did a rather brief ragtime acoustic set that was very impressive as usual. He generally plays a sort of impromptu little d-minor jam on yours is no disgrace...i've seen it several times on video and in concert...tonight, it sounded like he doubled the speed he played it at. He is definetly not getting up on stage and playing close to the edge, but he still has almost all of his dexterity, and loads more versatility...
on the strange side, howe continuously moved offstage...maybe a problem with his guitar? it was the gibson hollow body, i believe the es-335. Chris squire was great and just so damn charismatic! As was benoit david.
On an even stranger note....roundabout was missing completely until the encore....which has been starship trooper every time i've seen them...starship trooper was not played. Oliver wakeman was rick wakeman minus the improvisation, I feel like they have him on a leash. The number of the night had to be 'astral traveler'. they do pull sh*t out of there ass.

Interesting, last night they closed with Starship Trooper in NYC, so they must be switching things up...Howe was onstage all night so it must have been a tech problem.

They played Close to the Edge with this lineup when I saw them at Westbury (where they also saved Roundabout for the encore, btw), and it was part of their set list for a while. Howe played it effortlessly, and doesn't seem to be choosing any easier material, so I'm not sure what you mean by "He is definetly not getting up on stage and playing close to the edge"...

Wasn't Astral Traveller a pleasant surprise? That seems like the first true "Yes" song from the first two albums. I wonder what else they might have put in the setlist if they didn't do Starship Trooper - or maybe they didn't have as long to play in DC vs. NYC...sometimes the venue restricts how long the band can play...

that's true....Astral Traveler was nutso, i had listened to it before but they blew me away with it, as they did with machine messiah. I don't doubt that Howe can still play anything he's ever recorded....like CTTE...but if you saw yes in the 70's then you know that him playing close to the edge now vs then is distinctly different...there are really some beyond freakish videos of him from the 70's, especially on "Celebration".

You must have been living under a rock since you joined the forumLOL... Besides being my husband, Micky is one of the top posters on PA, even though he's not around very often lately.

Anyway, I'm happy you enjoyed the concert. For us it would not have been possible to go, unless I had chosen to go on my own - which I would not have done in any case. Oh, well, let's hope there will be another tour in the future!

Where can I get "Celebration"? I am very interested!

Jplanet, I'm pretty sure it was a bootleg filmed at queens parker ranger stadium in 73. I don't have it, but it has parts on you tube. Type "close to the edge celebration" on youtube. Howe's guitar solo in the beggining is "improvised, although planned out" according to him...and its like...inhuman
