Here's the deal: UMO Jazz Orchestra (a band not in the database) just released a compilation of their versions of Pekka Pohjola's music, in studio and live from 1977 to 2004. The composer himself appears on many of the tracks playing bass, and some tracks feature more of his regular band members. Some of these tracks were originally composed by Pohjola for the UMO Jazz Orchestra to perform, but he did record his own versions of all tracks on this album.

The way I see it, this is essentially a Pekka Pohjola compilation even though it's being released under the UMO Jazz Orchestra name, as it is his music and he appears on about half of the tracks. Is it okay to add it? The name of the album is "Beauty and the Beast: UMO plays the music of Pekka Pohjola", so it would make clear the leading role of the UMO Jazz Orchestra.

You should add it in the Tributes Section, I think: http://www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=29

From what you say, it might qualify as a Tribute Album. However, I am not an expert on the matter, and believe the Admins will be able to give you a more exhaustive response.

Oh yes, I forgot about the tribute section. Perhaps that would be the best place even thought there are no various artists, just one.

The problem with that would be that the album would get lost in the sea of different tributes, whereas the interested people would notice it much better if it was listed among the other Pohjola works... Well, it's up to the admins.

Just an idea: could you add it in the Compilations/Boxset section of the Pekka Pohjola entry, using a title such as 'PP (with UMO Jazz Orchestra)'? I've seen this definition used for other albums involving more than one artist, and think it's probably the best solution.

Do you mean like: "PP (with UMO Jazz Orchestra): Beauty and the Beast: UMO Plays the music of Pekka Pohjola"? That could look a bit too clumsy, perhaps we could alter the album name into something like "Beauty and the Beast: UMO Jazz Orchestra and Pekka Pohjola (or PP) play the music of Pekka Pohjola" or "Beauty and the Beast: UMO Jazz Orchestra plays the music of Pekka Pohjola (with Pekka Pohjola)". Ah, those aren't too good either, worse than my interpretation of your idea Tongue

I think it could be ok to just use the original album name, and when Pekka Pohjola is shown as the artist name and in the line-up list, it could be good.

Have a look at this:

http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=11599

You'll find more examples on Pat Metheny's page, since he recorded many albums with other artists. I believe this could be a good idea, even if with some changes. In any case, if you're not happy with the result after the addition, drop me a PM, and I'll edit the entry.

Here it is. I left the line-up like that, because a lot of people go through a big band in 30 years Tongue I can post a detailed list if I have enough free time some time in the future, like a week.

Looks great to meClap! This way the album can get more exposure than it would if it had been added in the dreaded Various Artist section.
