I have never had the pleasure of a John Smith's Extra Smooth, but I have had the Chinese Tsingtao (pronounced "Ching-Dow," by the way Geek), which as I recall, was quite good.

Yeah, Tsingtao is as smooth as a good Santana album. John Smith's is reminiscent of Newcastle Brown (Or as the folk where I stay have a tendancy to call it, 'Nookie Broon'!) There's another one that's quite good over here actually, called Mc Ewan's Export, which is slightly rougher than the other two.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that. Big smile Your comment on John Smith's (Fizzy Pop) is quite accurate, I have never yet opened a can of that, no matter how delicately, that has not exploded over me! Embarrassed Mind you, me and my mates could get a laugh once it had all been drank, simply because if you shake the empty cans hard enough, the little widget allows it to act as a primative percussion instrument... LOL

Aww, that's nice. Hug Hey, I know you said you weren't much into Hobgoblin, but there's loads of others from the Wychwood brewery, namely, Black Wych, a heavy ale which I must say, wasn't half bad for shifting one of my deadliest hangovers for a bit!

This is another beer that I enjoy, and it's from my hometown too Big smile

I believe the brewery uses recipes from 1407 and 1501 in order to recreate the traditional beer from Haarlem (though they don't use water from the city canals anymore I suppose Tongue).

Belgian beer is way too sweet for my tastes (especially the monastery beer), but it's definitely the most amazing beer I've ever tasted (well, there wasn't just one, it was just a figure of speech Embarrassed)

This is one of my favourites, not that sweet so I can drink more of it!



Tripel means that it has a triple alcohol concentration! Shocked

Last week Micky and I went to one of our favourite eating spots in Washington, DC - the famous Pizzeria Paradiso in Georgetown, which has a killer selection of beers (besides excellent, Italian-style pizzas). We had two huge glasses of a simply fantastic German dark wheat beer called Aventinus (look it up on the web if you want) - but, boy, the world did spin around us for a while when we left the restaurantLOL!

I'm a Belgian sucker for Belgian beers who had too many in a Belgian bar yesterday evening.
Voted Chimay Bleu, very sweet and one of my classics.
There's too many favourites to mention, like the amber coloured triple they brew here just around the corner and Duvel obviously.

Seconded Approve! This gruitbier is excellent indeed. I got some as a birthday present some months ago and since then it has a place among my favourites. The stout is even outstanding.
