So after all that, any recommendations?
I just purchased Opeth's Burden EP and 6 songs of Agalloch's Ashes Against The Grain - bloody itunes doesn't even have the whole album!

I was on Russian porn sites and I didn't know.

Russian traffickers (as several other bloggers, actually) having gotten hold of your album is not that unexpected.
iTunes is official stuff, could it simply appear in their offer?
|
Torrents are not something I wish to fight against. It'd be like me and Godzilla in a UFC match. That's all I'll say about it.
As for iTunes specifically, I've never dealt with them in any respect, so I don't know.
|
It's not strictly torrents. Even easier in form of download links. For which you could turn into Guy Manning, Pendragon or such guys, scan the whole internet for blogspots and places your album appears on, ask it to be removed, at which point some comply, others don't, later turning up nuked (by Blogger, mostly). (I got the part in red, above, not meaning to challenge you to further talking if you don't want, but felt like replying )

I use Amazon mp3 store. I don't like using Itunes because of the format.

You are certainly a Master-Baiter, Rico.
Scouring the Internet doesn't really appeal to me. I've got other things to do. In fact, I've even conversed with owners of one blog that has my album with a link for download.
I told them I was glad they liked my music (they really do- for some reason called it one of the best of 2009).
I'm a very small fish new to the recording world. I don't have a contract with a label, and I've got a family to feed (that my one measly album would never fulfill...fat wife and all), so I'm not sweating it.
Point is, nothing I do will stop illegal file sharing. And I don't have time to sit there are translate Spanish and Russian and all the other languages that have my album.
That doesn't mean I necessarily approve of people who download my album on these sites, but if they do, f**k it. Maybe if they like this one enough, they'll buy the next one. Probably not, but again, f**k it.
Got other sh*t to deal with that's way more important. Lars Ulrich I am not.

Rob, I fully understand your position, but as my father would say, there is always a silver lining to any black cloud. I give you mad respect for creating something from the heart, that is something no-one can ever take away from you. Knowing that your music (or in my case, my writing) has made some persons day a bit better is a feeling that goes beyond money. And while that happy feeling will never feed your family, it was always going to be a struggle - and I'm sure you knew that.
If it makes any difference, Lars Ulrich is a tool anyway.

Strangely, UZ had a blip musically in the 1990s rather then 1980s, like a lot of long established bands.

Genres don't really exist in popular music, I think. 'Folk' is pretty awesome sometimes, I've decided, which only makes me more cranky towards vaguely woodsy artists.

Such a thing would be questionable, wouldn't it?
Joking aside, I look at other bands with a debut (Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Phideaux, Dream Theater- need I name more?) that have far poorer ratings than I do.
It somewhat encourages me.
