^^ most tv recipes are available online now.
If you can do ham and eggs you've mastered the fundamentals of cooking.
It's very difficult to makes something that you can't eat - if you start with ingredients you like and don't burn them to a crisp you can usually eat whatever you cook.
Rather than dive into recipe books and try cooking things that you are not familiar with, I suggest pick a meals you like, think about how it's put together and just have a go. Chicken is good because it always works no matter what spices or other flavours you put with it. The only thing to remember is check it's properly cooked before you eat it - if there is still blood when you cut it - put it back in the oven for another 10 minutes and check it again.

with fowl thoughts I did a poor man's BBQ chicken tonight; a freerange breast broiled in a sauce of Worcestershire, ketchup, lemon, olive oil, soy sauce, tobasco and a shake of garlic powder, baked till the skin is almost blackened with a bit more sauce to finish, all over rice

When I first read your post I read freerange breast as teenage breast. Either I just have a dirty mind or I am going blind.

Nothing fancy, but damned if it ain't good:
Heat refried beans in a tortilla, then crush up some potato chips (Lays works well). Sprinkle those generously on the beans. No, it isn't stuffed duck with a vegetable medley on the side, but it's great. |

We always seem to have a lot of already crushed blue tortilla corn chips at the bottom of the bag when get there. That might be nice instead of the Lays. ![]() ![]() Edited by Slartibartfast - January 15 2010 at 15:29 |

That's what happened- we had a bag with crumbs in the bottom, so that's what I did with them. Mind you not to heat the chips in the microwave, or else they can get soggy. And yes, cheese and salsa will do. I don't think you want a Tortita, though. ![]() |

I often make bean burritos as a quick lunch when I have a can of beans on hand. I crush the beans with a fork (don't have a food processor yet), then add some Greek yogurt (replacement for sour cream) and salsa to make a smoother mixture, and put it into flour tortillas together with a sprinkling of shredded Mexican cheese. Then I put the burritos in the oven to crisp the tortillas up a bit, and serve with more salsa, yogurt, and cheese. Nothing fancy, but delicious, and quite healthy too.

So, I don't play games much, but let's use the system from game I like. Do ACHIEVEMENTS style. Can cook the chicken Can do soup And so on. So, my question (begging for help, pleaaaaaaase) is, can you recommend me some of these online recipes ? Some easy one, or not necessarily easy, but the most important thing is that it has to be made from basic ingredients. Nothing special, rare. HINT: At home, we have onions :-) You know, it's day before shopping, so can you recommend me something from these also ? :-) thanks forwards. |

That's close to my bean-burger mix, although I don't mash it too smooth, then fry them off in a little oil.

or perhaps just this : http://breakfast-recipes.suite101.com/article.cfm/easy_skillet_breakfast_with_potatoes_and_eggs
...but I would go for a simple Spanish Potato Frittata http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Nans-Potato-And-Egg-Frittata/Detail.aspx

I'll give you a fairly simple recipe that uses some of the things you mention, others you'd have to get : - 3 or 4 Russet potatoes (the large brown ones), chopped into dice-sized cubes - 1 large yellow or white onion, chopped - 1 green bell pepper, chopped - 3 or 4 sausages, sliced into 1/2 inch pieces (any kind will do but I like a pork sausage that's smoked, Andouille or Hungarian are nice) - real maple syrup - 1/4 cup olive oil - salt & pepper Heat a large pan with half the oil and sautee onions and peppers together with a bit of salt till tender. Remove onions and bell peppers from pan and put in a bowl. Put rest of the oil in the pan, turn flame up to medium, fry potato cubes with some salt&pepper till they start to get golden, reduce heat to low, cover and cook till tender. Put potatoes in the bowl with vegetables, and fry sausage pieces briefly. Return potato/vegetable mixture to pan with the sausage, add about 1/4 cup maple syrup, maybe a bit more S&P to taste, simmer on low for a few minutes, add a splash more of the maple syrup, and enjoy. This may seem complex but it just takes some time, and you'll get the hang of it after making this dish a few times. Good luck! |

The last really simple thing I threw together was a won ton soup: pre-made frozen potstickers (yeah, cheating somewhat), chicken broth and then my wife told me we had some sliced green onions in the freezer. It was a little bland, but then I added some chili-garlic sauce and soy sauce to my bowl. A little too much c-gs though, aieee!!!

David, that recipe sounds like a real killer... I just described it to Micky (who LOVES sausages of every description), and he's already salivating at the thought
