I just discovered that exactly 100 years ago, Paris was under waters
A whole photo exhibition is dedicated to the floods of January 1910. Here are some samples: |

New pix, today Budapest:
The true city of lights. Imposing. Pictorial. A pub bellow several tons of water hold only by glass. A surprising museum with wonderful collections and cozy atmosphere. Can't blame Marcus Aurelius, he had good tastes. Tintoretto's 60% opacity cat. |

Cool winter pictures, Dean. It reminded me of one done a while ago (not by myself, but by my mother)

Wow, what an amazing winter! What we have here over the Canal is nothing compared to that. Superb pictures, too!
RE London, I suppose a several million pictures of London are uploaded every year, so who am I kidding with my few hundred pictures I am about to share on Flickr? Still, I believe I can make the difference with my witty and pseudo knowledgeable comments |

^ Excellent Pix Alex - it's great to see a familiar place through different eyes, our vision becomes clouded with familiarity at times and I don't see it in quite the same way anymore, thanks for "opening my eyes" a little
Here are a few of my snaps from yesterday - another slant of looking at familiar landscapes in a different guise so we see them in a new light, these are taken in the Hampshire village where I live:
...the reason for "working from home" :
the field at the rear of my house:
the garden:
the road:
the bridge:
the railway station:
Alex on the village "green":
A tree:
Another tree, getting a bit "arty":
Real "arty", a tree and a street lamp:

Thanks! RE urban freedom, I should have mentioned that I'm referring to architecture and urbanism, don't know about the rest
Actually the CCTV thing was funny and made me feel awkward but safe |

Great shots Alex - probably the first time I've heard the words 'urban freedom' used about London

What I liked in London #1 (urban freedom) What I liked in London #2 (I don't know how to describe this, but it speaks for itself) What I liked in London #3 (my favourite spot in town) What I liked in London #4 (the city lives after dusk, too) What I didn't like in London (post-industrial architecture and urbanism) Hardcore gay porn at the British Halucinations at the Tate |

Thankee kindly - a couple more from the same trip:
Vicky atop the cliffs @ Tintagel (again, I loved the light in this one - I was about 100 yards away, but luckily had the 400mm lens on the camera at the time) Another Cornwall sunset... This I love - works almost as well upside down as it does the right way up (and yes, this is yet another sunrise shot - we were up with the dawn every day) |

Must...
Help... Mike revive thread... Cornwall a couple of months ago: About 6:30am this one - had to run back to the house to get the camera when I saw the quality of the light. Sunrise & dead oak tree (completely unfiltered) Another sunrise shot here - pure tranquility (note the 2 fishing rods, bottom right) Other end of the day this one - not the most wonderful composition, but I just loved the colours (again, no filters used) |
