Let's do it the Cobain Way: I hate myself and want to die!

Wait, I'm a Melvins fan! So, I love myself and want to live... making a lot of racket with disto and larsens.

Hahaha, this is the beautiful thing about having a persona. Everybody gets so wrapped up in it they think you're much cleverer than you actually are. ;-) No, this poll was actually sincere (well, as sincere as I can be) and an attempt to reach out to other lost souls wandering in the darkness of the internet.

OK, apologies for undermining your sincerity but you create the persona by what you choose to reveal about yourself in your posts. (and no-one blames the composer when a pianist hits a 'bum' note)

BTW you flatter yourself (the buds of self-love/recovery ?)

I think a little bit of self-loathing never did anyone any harm (We Scots are praying they make it an Olympic event) as long as its kept within bounds where an individual still continues to function and interact with others blah yakkity ditto etc.

You are clearly eloquent, intelligent and funny but suffer from a surfeit of that post-modern malaise that Sartre (a wise old speccy French critter) neatly expressed thus:

- Like all dreamers, I mistook disenchantment for truth  -

I only hate myself on Mondays, and even then it's not just me, but the largest portion of the bricks tends to fall that way,
Can you tell me where we're headin'?

jesus christ.....  what has happened to people today..  what might possess one to hate yourself.  Be proud of yourself.. .we all unique and special in our own ways. Celebrate that.. and care less about what others think...

I don't agree with this. There are way too many, "filler" type people that make no contribution to anything for this assumption to be true.

Anyway, I don't hate myself. I'm in full control of my functions and do things the way I want to do them. Sometimes I hate some of the things I do, but I don't hate myself.

This.

God helps me a lot, despite how much crap I get on with in my life. I don't hate myself, but I have definite paranoia sometimes.

No I don't hate myself. Because I am amazing.

Although there is also the fact that it doesn't make sense to hate anything.

No...
I don't hate myself. I'm not to happy with some of the choices I've made.
But I don't hate myself.

Finally posting here.

Hate? Probably not. I think I'm an OK person. "I" is the operating term here; I kind of wonder if other people think I'm messed up though. The past semester I tried to be extroverted and get along with people but things aren't going too well. There's a bunch of endless questions that go through my head... they usually begin with, "Why can't I....?" Bunches of problems. College sucks a bit now. Future's like a thick fog, and all I'm left to do is wonder why I don't have passion or a drive to be creative as some people I take meager inspiration from. I know I'm going to get stuck in a sh*tty unsatisfying job because I'm too much of an indifferent b*****d who has no self-esteem. Joy.

Oh and yeah I probably am narcissistic. I'm tired of feeling weird, confused, lost, lonely, dispassionate, useless, etc. So forgive me if I focus on myself and my interests a lot when I'm feeling so low all the time. Can't really help it. I'm also tired of putting myself out there and being agreeable when I find no kindred souls.

I'm very self critical, and think there is a lot wrong with me, that I have no control over, but hate is a little strong..

When you mix some narcissism (as you said) with philosophy, all you end up with is a constant useless analysis of yourself, your surroundings, and how they affect you. It becomes the philosophy of yourself. But if you have narcissist traits, and on top of that you have a mind avid for philosophical knowledge, most likely you'll end up being a universal mind... where the universe consists of several "I" systems...

The best thing to do is what you've done. Try to go out and reach the other world. When you recognize what bothers you, you're halfway there. In time, all your good things will actually start to matter. And you'll be philosophizing without suffering about it....

Anyway, about this thread... If one hates him/herself, there's only two things you can do about it: either you put an end to it by changing what you don't like, or you continue hating yourself until one day you'll put an end to it in another, rather more drastic way....

So, in a word, stop whining... Tongue
