I managed to kick the habit several years ago now, but only after many false starts. If you can keep it down to just the odd one that's probably good enough - unfortunately I've never got the hang of doing things in moderation.

Love it - had to double check it wasn't a wind up though when I saw the book's sub-title "A Humorous Appreciation of 12 Allotment Structures Captured in a Luxury Calendar "; that sounds exactly how Viz would advertise such a thing.

Thanks Chris, thanks Jim - now if you two would do me a favour & write to my doctor, maybe he will accept that a reduction is better than nothing; tends to treat you the same whether you're on 5 a day or 50 (and yes - he is an ex-smoker)

It's no wind up.  I saw it on sale in my local post office so found a link on the net to share.

i can understand where your Doctor is coming from Jim, they all say the same - i visited my  Doctor 2 years ago for a check up and NRTprescription, and he said one cigarette a day is  too many Ermm
 
It's all in the mind - you are still in love with smoking, and having your "treat" in the evening will enhance this desire -  you need to see cigarettes as your  ENEMY Angry
 
Like Chris i can't handle moderation - i'm either in or out, - i certainly couldn't have stood waiting all day till i got home for a fag, that will just make things worse,  i would sit  thinking about it all day long, now i can't even bear the smell of smoke, you will eventually develop an aversion to it  Dead

Thanks all for the birthday wishes.  Managed to make the 120 mile round trip to my folks, over the Cotswolds.  Actually it wasn't that bad as driving on snow is fine without a plethora of idiots in the way and the news scare stories had kept most off the road.

Snow's not too bad here, but the forecast is for heavy snow for the next 2 days. Unfortunately someone skidded into the back of our car this afternoon and smashed the bumper. The good news is the other guy's insurance company have phoned and will arrange the repairs and lend us a hire car while ours is being repaired. What service!
Just as well, as I couldn't get through to my insurance company ("we're sorry we're experiencing heavy calls volumes at the moment, please hold for the next hour whilst listening to some awful music and racking up a large phone bill").
