Oh, that surprises me.

I did enjoy Idmen but I felt it dragged on a bit.  Neither of them are that close to my top 10 really, as I'm sure Aranis would fit in there ahead of both.

Of course, Aranis is far better than both Indukti and MotW. But I really can't stand the vocals in MotW.
I'm also exceting to hear the last Aranis. And Dave Kerman... Wow. Must be something.

Do check out Ahvak.  That is an amazing album and features Dave Kerman!

And my life has been made easier, as Acoustic Ladyland are not in the 'chives.

Ahvak is pretty much in my tastes, I've only listened their last album so far, though.

Goodbye! I'm going to sleep.
Happy new year for those who it's before me.
Best wishes! Smile

Erm, that is their only album.

This album is superb!

I think Acoustic Ladyland should be on P.A.

You all will probably be surprised. Wink

I'm going to be (re?)listening to the following to see if they'll get a place:

Stendeck - Sonnambula
Susumu Yokota - Mother
Current 93 - Aleph at Hallucinatory Mountain
Super Minerals - Clusters
Memory Tapes - Seek Magic (it's probably going in there, just not sure where)
Whisp - The Shimmering Hour
William Basinski - 92982

And others. It's probably going to have a good amount of electronica.

How's that Current 93?

I've heard a few of their albums and really enjoyed them.  Has David Tibet still got his great compositional skill?

I dunno. I've had it in my 2009 folder for awhile but can't remember if I've listened to it. I've heard good things, so it's time to see.

End of the year listening rush time...

I'm thinking I'll need to get an Aranis album soon, I've liked what I've heard from them so far.  I want way too many albums right now, though.  I'll have to make a list of them all and have a random number generator choose which ones to get.

I have Aranis' first two but not the most recent.

I still think I need Rational Diet's last one too... I shall check.

Edit: no, I do have it Big smile

I don't even have Aranis' first two. I think I've been discovering at least 1-5 more bands I need to check out per week (several weeks bringing more), and Aranis was only discovered in...early December I think.

So far, I think all these will be in my top 10:

Pain of Salvation - Linoleum EP
Stendeck - Sonnambula
Memory Tapes - Seek Magic
Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings
Taipuva Loutisuora - IV
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Natural Snow Buildings - Shadow Kingdom

I feel pretty confident about all those.

I'm finding myself more in agreement with Pat about UZ overshadowing Present.  I'm giving 1313 another listen now, and it's definitely excellent.  I'm thinking I need to order more of their albums soon.

UZ and Present are often random and boring. UZ did make Heresie, which is awesome.

I'm fairly positive I'll be ordering Heresie soon.  From the descriptions I've read of it on its album page, it seems to be a pretty excellent album.  Not sure if I'll grab it or Uzed next though.

Or, perhaps I could wait and order Clivages so I've got at least one 2010 release during 2010. LOL

It's pretty much the darkest album ever. Some stuff by Lustmord is really close though. And not dark in a crappy, random, musique concrete, darkwave, goth or other crap way like that. Just growing, pusating terror. That's why all non Heresie albums by UZ I've heard just plain fail. They just play dissonant notes in jams, and while there's a permeating uneasy feeling because of the dissonance, it's just pointless. It's not enjoyable, and it's not terrifying, and it's not mood music. It's just notes.

I still think the darkest album I've heard so far is Shub-Niggurath's Les Morts Vonte Vite.  Tomorrow I need to finally listen to X.  I've been putting it off for some reason.  Maybe because I haven't had a 160m chunk of time to set aside yet.

Oh by the way, this Super Minerals is very boring. I like ambient, but not really minimalist. The first track is seriously just a like alternating two major 2nd piano notes moderately fast with vague nature sounds in the back. Maybe with a synth pad or something. For 22 minutes. It's pretty, but it's somewhat boring. And it can't be background music because it's pretty fast piano notes. Ugh. I'd like this music if I passed by it playing in a shop in a mall somewhere.
