Not really too many favorites amongst these.  I never really got the humor of Monty Python or Seinfeld, which are both commonly considered the funniest shows ever. 

I voted for Eddie Murphy.  I remember a friend having a tape of his stand up routine and thinking that it was quite funny.  I've seen performances by George Carlin, Robin Williams, and Richard Pryor, which were kind of funny, but the problem with all of these guys is that they have to fall back on profanity to get a laugh.  I can cuss with the best of them, but my kudos go to Bill Cosby, who can make me bust a gut laughing so hard without having to resort to profanity.

That is a blast from the past.  I used to enjoy Bob Hope's annual specials that would air on TV.  I never really got into his movies, but I did enjoy these specials.

As far as I am concerned he smashed the racial barrier and made us truly look at ourselves and exposed the flaws in us all,whether we were white,black,hispanic,etc.
 
Props to Lenny Bruce though,all comedians who came after him owe him a huge debt.

I've always felt sorry for American comedians. The quality of their work is very low. Since the seventies the Dutch have been spoiled with the greatest cabaret/standup comedians in history (Wim Sonneveld, Toon Hermans, Wim Kan, Freek de Jonge). It's still a very high regarded scene with lot's of very talented young comedians (de Vliegende Panthers, Hans Teeuwen, etc). International cabaret is therefore very unpopulair in Holland.
