^That's ridiculous. But then again, it's always the easiest way out. When in problem, call Hitler.

Atheism for the sake of atheism has not killed too many people, ever. Religion for the sake of religion have. If you equate what happened in the cases of single dictators whi in their malignant narcissism decide to obliterate half of mankind with wars that occur because thousands of individuals hate each other's religious beliefs, well... there's no point in Mike replying to you.

Neither Stalin nor Hitler not Pol Pot killed people because they wanted to instill atheism. It was all part of madness/communism/facism/thirst-for-power/.narcisissim and many more things.

Also, when you mention these guys you are only mentioning ONE guy per case... Try to do the same with your religious wars... Why can't you mention one specific dictator responsible for amny religious war? Because they were based ON RELIGION, NOT IN THE MADNESS OF ONE SINGLE INDIVIDUAL.

Well... I think most of the cases of "religious" wars were aboarded some other time and you have to agree that those are politicals involved in that cases, but I'm not an expert so I won't put my hand in fire about that cases, I only can speak about the jewish war in palestine, and that NOT a religious war... if you believe in CNN... well, that's your problem...

Well, of course they were.

I suppose I should say that those involved in the Crusades, etc., were not following the commands of the Bible (Christ never said to make wars in His name).

You are right.   However, they were following the commands of their religious leaders and their kings, who all carried the blood of God.

The Royal families are all direct descendants of God, and thus carry God's blood.  That is what made them Royal families.  Or at least that is what they told the peasants so that the peasants would obey their every command.

As I just posted in the general discussions atheist thread, I'm not attacking beliefs here. Just erroneous accusations. Just as I was baffled at Ivan saying that not-believing is faith (?!), I can't believe someone says that those narcissistic idiots like Stalin and Hitler killed because of atheism.

Maybe not as a result of Atheism, but probably as a result of not having a moral code that most humans are born with.
Ironically, Communism's promotion of atheism is most likely a direct result of the Royal family's using God's blood as their sole reason for being the chosen leaders, and the centuries of Royal families using religion as a tool to control and manipulate their people to do as they please in the name of God.  I believe that Marx may have saw religion as the root of all evil.  Unfortunately, the countries that implemented communism were the ones that were least developed and thus least ready for communism as proposed by Marx.  And those leaders ended up being just as evil if not worse than the Royal families that they opposed.  Which leads to the maxim that absolute power absolutely corrupts.

People use guns inappropriately- doesn't mean I'm opposed to gun ownership.  The same can be said about a lot of things people have abused over the years- alcohol, computers...

Hell, you get modern day "Christian" idiots on TV exploiting the faithful.

The video game Grand Theft Auto said it best:

"Damnation!  No donation, no salvation!"

^^^ The Hitler/Stalin argument comes up often in those debates ... I guess Stalin particularly because in the US some people equate Atheism with Communism.

I had an art history class in College, in which the teacher suggested that religion was the basic building block that made a society, a society.  Religion was important for civilization to develop.  Religion explained why everything was what everything was and why everyone was who everyone was.  Before religion, there was nothing but anarchy.  Religion solved this problem by creating rules.  In its most simplistic form, behave appropriately and you will go to heaven, behave badly and you will go to Hell.  Somewhere along the way, people learned to use this behavioural tool as a way to rule and manipulate.  I'm so sorry that while I live the high life in my castle with feasts every night, you starve and your children are sick, but hey, don't worry, when they die, at least they will go to Heaven and live on eternally in a better place.  Eventually, this turned in to our God is better than their God, and they don't believe in our God, so therefore it is OK to convert them to our God, and if they don't convert then it is Ok to kill them because they are heathens.

In short, religion is a far, far more dangerous tool to abuse then guns, alcohol, or computers.

And with this, I wholeheartedly agree.

well, if you remember somewhere in this threads there was the discussion that eventually the religion will become into a self God and all that... and most of the communist we have talked were selfmade gods fro them... so there's a link between new atheist destroyers of religions and communism... it's a link very easy to make... but I guess you are not communist right Mike...???

Do you ever watch NCIS?  The commercials for tonight's show show Ziva beat up a bunch of folks that could be your family, and then she butchers the English language and calls them "Red Throats" before she is corrected with the proper terminology.
