It also contains 4 key phrases from the e-mailer that promises free CDs for 5 star reviews, including 'masterpiece', 'best ... in 2009', 'very recommended', and 'progressive music'. For more examples of reviews written following this form just check the reviews for Number 7 on rateyourmusic.com

Not to be too ornery or anything, but words like "recommended," "masterpiece," "best of the year," and "progressive music" especially... very common things said in reviews. I'm not saying this guy isn't being a manipulative idiot, as that isn't up to me to decide.

Bah this whole Phideaux thing. This secret campaign that may or may not be running can really ruin rating it well for those of us who genuinely enjoy the album and want to give it a fair rating. Maybe it just bugs me that I've been writing positive reviews for plenty of this guy's discs, but if I'd tweaked my word usage a bit, I could be getting free stuff! Confused

I have a great deal of empathy with this post as the transparent ingenuousness that Phideaux has exhibited since this album was released, smacks of an individual who clearly thinks PA are full of naive idiots. (I suspect that's what gnaws at Liquid Eternity) There are many heartfelt and sincere reviews for this work certainly, but also the incriminating trail of droppings left by a hired claque of admirers. Without any substance or proof of manipulation by the artist, I'm completely comfortable to be told to 'put up or shut up'
and if this post is deemed disrespectful to the artist. It is.

Oh well. Personally I have yet to see anything that convinces me of any Phideaux campaign - at least run by him personally - but I'll be sure to contact codd to find out. Judging from his MySpace page he'll be an interesting person to get to know anyhow ;-)

Indeed. Pretty much knew that this was the case...especially after seeing his MySpace page.

funny that Claudio would join in 2006 and not make his first review until 2009.  I don't think he is a fanboy because he says that Number Seven was the first time he heard our music.

Of course, I quite agree with the review.  I think it's lovely!  Emoticons

This was probably his first encounter with a 'masterpiece', can you imagine the epiphany.

I know!  What joy for him.  To look at his beautiful record collection on his myspace page you'd think he had lots to talk about.

Now where did you get that one from? Sure never said so in his review, nor on his website.

As I see it, someone is a tad too obsessed about certain matters here - and need to chill out a bit...

Looks like I have to add my 5-star ratings to Phideaux albums to make this average little bit higher ;-)

Damn, past always outruns you and punches you in your face. Hehe, better face than lap.

Anyway, it was just, umm, experiment. Your albums are actually at least 200 words worth, in rating I'll go from 3-5 I suppose. Quite good music I have to say, pleased me. But write review, it will be harder.

Yeah, not uncommon for there to be alternate spellings, and regional spellings, so either is acceptable.  I prefer completist partially because it's simpler, but then I prefer some longer spellings of words because I'm used to them (for instance, I prefer colour to color).  I remember being corrected by a teacher at PA for using an "ise" spelling instead of "ize" when I know full-well that both are correct.

I agree with you Pablo.  It's impolite and obnoxious, but most people don't care, so nothing will be done about it.  People should have the common sense to realize that some writers can spend hours trying to write something nice for the site, only to see it obliterated by the "machine-gunners".  But they don't.  So it's just one of those things you have to accept my friend.  Wink

I tried to get some reasonable limits approved once, like one review per reviewer every 30 mins or something like that, but it went nowhere.  So be it.

OOPS, just realized this was REPORTING and not discussion.  Apologies in advance for the blunder!

Bonnek posted four Can reviews in 4 minutes (of course, that does prove that he wrote all of them in advance), between 14:07 and 14:10 EST (I'm sorry if the timeline is confusing, or it shows different to you)

Right now, they're halfway gone. It has only been an hour and a half since , and no new review appeared for almost an hour after Bonnek's series.

An hour prior to Bonnek's series, only 2 reviews were written. Prior to that, 11 reviews were written within less than an hour. "Rune2000" reviewed Hackett's Bay Of Kings at 12:03, 53 minutes later it was front page history. No riot? Maybe Rune2000's heart was crushed, too. Psarros's Sithonia review stayed on the front page for 3 hours, even with Bonnek's devastating intrusion. Bonnek's reviews themselves could dissappear much sooner (they'll start dissapearing with the next new review, as I write: 2 hours and a half so far)

This is pretty much bicker to my ears. It's the recent 10 reviews listing, nothing stays on it for half a day if the traffic goes even moderately. I'd be more interested how many people click on "last 50 reviews", because that's what I do everyday, after a night's sleep. That's close to how many reviews are written in a matter of 6-7 hours, if it's a good day.

I didn't imagine hopes were so high, for recent reviews (given such fruitful reviewing activity) to be treasured. I don't understand what's obliterated either. The reviews stay forever on the album's page (where people, excluding the roughly half a day it takes for the front page to be fully refreshed, go anyway in search of reading, recommendations or informations), plus also on the highly-esteemed reviewers (if viewed that way by their faithful readers)  own personal reviews' page.

Also what Moris said, from a different, better point of view.

Bottom line: The more reviews the merrier. If someone has prepared 20? Good. If some of them are first reviews as well: Great.

I do hope that most of the reviewers write for their opinions to be looked at for the forseeable future - and not for a few hours of attention on the frontpage ;-)

If you look it that way, why don't abolish the front page feature all together? I wouldn't care if it wasn't there, but it is, so there's a reason why it was placed and I think people must be fair, and not drop a bomb of 5 or more reviews all in a row and don't let other reviews who were as hard worked as the other who posted them all consecutively.

It's a different case that a reviewer actually writes those reviews in the moment and posts them, that's fine.

I never start PA with the "last 10 reviews" homepage. I've bookmarked the "last 50 reviews" homepage and that's how I start my daily visit to PA Thumbs Up
