on regular albums discography, US versions are counted on the regular albums along with the actual albums for A Hard Day's Night and 'Help!' They could be moved down to a different category; the US edition for 'Revolver' for example is in a different category.
 
it just makes things more convoluted.

That isn't true. The albums in question are compilations rather than actual studio albums, so they should go into compilations, clearly. The US releases haven't been considered a part of the 'official' discography for years (Except for Magic Mystery Tour, which Britain considers an official release as well). I live in America, and those crap US knock-offs can't even be found now.

The US versions of Revolver and Rubber Soul are in the compilations section. The same should be done for the rest. I talked about this ages ago, but nobody seemed to care. Now we have yet another person complaining about it, and I don't blame them. The Beatles pages looks atrocious. Something needs to be done. The official chronology is easily found on the official site. We need to go by that.

Partly done.

Partly because:
1. I'm not sure US versions of "Hard Day's Night" and "Help!" should be moved to Boxset/Compilations because both contain George Martin's instrumentals missed on UK albums.

2. When I'm trying to edit "The Beatles Second Album" the error occurs:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'

Incorrect syntax near 'Second'.

/Post_updatetitle.asp, line 72

I saw this error in case of other albums of other bands too.

I wouldn't call them compilations.  I think the way they are listed as "US version" is adequate.

I added the US versions of Hard Days Night and Help because they are actual soundtracks, whereas the UK versions are collections of hits.

Then shouldnt the UK versions be placed in a compilations section instead of official studio albums?

Also the UK versions are NOt a collection of hits. Only one of the songs was released prior to AHDN for example

^ This is what I have been saying all along. The ONLY exception that should be made to this rule is the US version of "Magical Mystery Tour", since it IS considered part of the official collection by the Beatles website (plus it was included in the remastered box sets).

But fo course nobody listens to me, so it took a fellow collaborator suggesting it before anybody actually considered it.

The Beatles discog has been discussed by the admins many times and is not something that has been ignored or neglected, I keep an eye on it often as Morgova is always trying to make frivolous US additions.

I will take all of your concerns to the admins and have answers for you soon (PA definition of soon, ha ha).

As for now, please leave things they way they are until the proto-prog team has made a decision, tanks.

Just my two cents and general agreement with Conor, Pomt and Snowie...I think only the official UK releases + the US version of Magical Mystery Tour should be included in the studio album section.  While it is true that A Hard Day's Night and Help in their US version contains soundtrack music, this music was neither composed nor performed by the Beatles.  Therefore, I think the soundtrack music should be irrelevant in the consideration of where the albums are placed. 
 
I understand why you did it that way John, but I think it does clutter up the Beatles page unnecessarily.

I remember, there was an instruction somewhere in the forum about what to do when adding different issues/versions of the same album. 

They should not be added as new entries into discography but rather their difference in track listing should be mentioned in the details of the main original release, and explanation added into a free form space provided. In that way the cluttering would not occur and discography would be neat. 

I think a primary responsible person to clean and sort a discography should be the person who initially added a bio of the band in the first place. There should not be a problem, really, just follow the widely accepted discography listings such as in Wikipedia or Allmusic and problem solved. I follow these simple rules when I personally add an album and I try to sort discography (if necessary) of the bands that I personally wrote bios....

This is difficult for me. I would like to review the difficult "Revolver" on the U.S. version (no I'm Only Sleeping And Your Bird,etc.) and that would be O.K. But "Rubber Soul", now that's different. What the hell is "I've Just Seen A Face" doing at the start. Why Dont We just seperate all the songs into catagories John's songs Paul's songs,etc.
