It could. S&A had some clunnkers on it, whereas VT was xlnt from start to finish.

Vapor Trails is either my first or second favorite Rush album.

Major disagreement there. VT was decent but SnA was near perfection of song writing for the band.

... and wasn't ELP getting back together, and Lake & Emerson were currently co writing material for a new album release next year?

How about an upbeat Porcupine Tree album?

Angst and nihilism is becoming a cliché.

Wilson needs to find some indian guru and see the light, OK?

Metal - whether I like it or not, if I want to listen to new things, metal is making big share of our prog pie. So, let's say that I like lighter forms of metal, like Dream Theater for example. But let's make sum of it and say that I'm not against others too. Problems are from mutual misunderstanding :-)

ELP - Don't know about them. Is there something that google can find about them ?

RUSH - OK guys, let's calm a little bit. Seems like that you're both more or less Rush fans and that you can agree on that these albums are very good. It's not important which one from these two is better. I like both, ok ?

There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

I would expect a lot more of metal myself. And a lot of going back to the roots, also, way back.
A prog friend of mine just told me that the ELP reunion is confirmed, and shall we go to the London gig together...I have no idea of where he read it, though. I hope it's true.

Amplifier's new record is also out next year and possibly Pure Reason Revolution's.
And lo, the mighty riffage was played and it was good

I think, arguably, we are enjoying a golden age of prog. Possibly the best since the early 70s. We're spoiled for choice. Just look at the list on the OP. SO many bands, so many new albums to look forward to. I suspect 2010 will be just as excellent a year for prog and prog-related material as '09.

I've spent a fortune on prog this year. I have the new albums from Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Transatlantic, Muse, plus past albums I have discovered from Pain Of Salvation, Rush, Spocks Beard, Opeth, King Crimson, Marillion, and more.

Of course, this renaissance in prog does depend on whether or not you also enjoy metal. Which I do. Quite a lot of todays prog heavyweights, including many of those featured on the OP's list, are heavy prog, prog metal, or prog crossover.

The thing is, metal sells. That's why bands like DT, PT, Opeth, Mastodon, Coheed & Cambria, Muse and Mars Volta have achieved a lot of popularity. They all have a sound which, although progressive, can be targeted towards rock and metal fans. And if these groups are bringing prog back into the media spotlight, how can that be seen as a bad thing? Love live prog.
Hello, mirror. So glad to see you, my friend. It's been a while...

John Zorn shouldn't be on the maybe list. He'll definitely release at least another 4 or 5 this year.

I wanted to post political incorrect joke involving Islam and Europe in contrast to Metal and Prog, but I'll rather pass it (so nobody will get offended and we'll be happy, including me, because those who wanted will understand the encrypted message).

Just joke guys, nothing more.

I was thinking about how much you have to spend to get all the new releases. It's right that when I started to look around here on PA, I had to take a part time job, to earn money. A lot of money, because even when considering bargains, it's expensive hobby. But totally worth of. And I'm this type of guy who wears clothes around $5 for each piece of T-Shirt, jeans ... (only more expensive piece are boots, but you know. Same as you have to have good audio-system, you have to have good shoes, right ?).

I see 2010 as some kind of climax of what was preparing last years, more and more each year.

Got this on facebook from Moon Safari:

Hey there boys and girls!

I just wanted to let you know that on Thursday the 10th of december, Moon Safari will venture into the studio once again to start recording our third album. You will be able to follow the work on a blog as well as on youtube where we will post some video clips during the recording sessions.

Links will be posted soon enough. Meanwhile, stay tuned! :)

/ Tobias, Moon Safari

Seems pretty likely we will see it in 2010 if that is the case. :)

That's amazing. I have quite a soft spot for them, as it was album that helped me to go here on PA.

And of  course amazing music too. I think we can easily type them down to confirmed (in our hearts...and ok, something real - they will do it, in their music is harmony, same as in their work, am I right ?)

Umm, is there a possibility that anyone knows what has been added for year 2010 to PA database ?
