The avatar reflects a part of the member's personality, that's a fact. Nobody picks an avatar that has absolutely no relation whatsoever with any concscious or subconscious part of his/her self. So I would guess it's partially valid to attach the avatar to the person. In the end,
it's the only image of themselves than most of the members allows us to see.
Even no-avatar avatars like Harry's (Petrovsk) say something... that's obvious. Even when it's just the selection of something that you enjoy like a particular album, it's still saying a lot about what you choose to represent yourself..
..so if we imagine Epignosis as Skeletor, we might think he's trying to conquer the world!

(which may be true from a musical point of view)... Or maybe he just finds it ridiculous (the movie was awful) but it still says something...
By the way, I also associate members with their avatars.. Sometimes when I see an actual photograph of a member and I see their real faces I'm like surprised they don't resemble their avatars.. (even if it's a
thing...

)
