I was listening to a band called Cell and their album titled Slo*Blo this morning. They were described as a New York grunge band. You might want to check them out.

THANK YOU! Alice in Chains are equally awesome, though. Can't deny that |

Of the choices I'd go with Alice in Chains easily, though had Stone Temple Pilots been a choice, I'd have given it a lot more thought. Any of Stone Temple Pilots first three are winners, I really like Tiny Music.
Would Live be considered grunge? If so, they're a great band to check out as well. Both Secret Samhadi and Throwing Copper are great albums. |

I kinda like Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains, but grunge is really not my preferred genre to say the least...

Out of the list Soundgarden followed by Alice in Chains.I don't care for Nirvana or Pearl Jam.
The early bands on the scene like Mother Love Bone (),Mudhoney and Green River deserve way more recognition.

Nirvana, then Alice, then Pearl Jam and finally Soundgarden. Melvins is a good call!
I also like Screaming Trees and Butthole Surfers, though I'm not sure we could consider that grunge...

^ Great call on I Mother Earth. I thought of putting them up as well, but discounted them because they didn't seem like a grunge band to me. The proficiency and Latin flavored drums put them in a different category in my mind.
Great band regardless of where they fall, I just listened to One More Astronaut last night. |

the Norwegian band Motorpsycho was in the start a Grunge band but evolved to a Progressive grunge band, then to progressive alternative rock/metal, then to Jazz/rock and Psychadelic and progressive rock

1.
2. Nirvana, In Utero (awesome)
3. Pearl Jam, Binaural (one of my favorites)
4. STP, Purple (just fun)
5. Alice in Chains, Dirt (great vocals, and guitars, but a bit boring and monotone)
Much missing on this list... for me Veruca Salt, Neil Young, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Melvins, Helmet, Sebadoh, Pavement, Meat Puppets, Faith No More, Dinosaur Jr. are grunge too... so put one of these in the first place...

I just bought that album last week, I love, it's my favourite Pearl Jam album together with Yield, it's a shame it's so underrated, most people think it's one of their weakest, what the hell is wrong with them?! |
