I'm sorry to hear that Vicky, I guess it's too early to tell what the "package" will be.

What?

the threat of redundancy hangs over all of us, my normally sunny summer break had a black cloud hanging over it at the College this year because of  "the chosen disappeared"....appraisals were reviewed,  departments were closed, angry emails were sent, meetings were arranged, figures were discussed, tempers flared....and it's not over yet Ouch

Sad news Vic.  Although 2011 is a way away yet.  Perhaps you'll have to check out Gloucester.Wink

Sorry to hear that Vicky. I notice the dreaded phrase "outsourcing plans" lurking in the BBC's report.

But curiously, not the expression "our government's in loads of debt, let's sell anything which isn't nailed down - if it is nailed down, un-nail it & sell it anyway"

They're also planning to sell off the Dartford Bridge. That is a gold mine for someone, I can't wait to see how much it will cost me to visit my family once that happens! (sarcastic emoticon required here).

Hmmm - someone in Whitehall obviously thinks, "that's a nice little earner, we'll get a good price for that " conveniently forgetting they then have to find the revenue stream formerly brought in by said asset elsewhere...

(dropping nuclear weapon on Alastair Darling's head type emoticon required here)

I wouldn't say no to a small percentage of the income from the Dartford Bridge. Have you seen how many cars go over it every day? Wikipedia reckons 150,000 a day at £1.50 a time.

Imagine how many tazers we could buy for this evening with that money!

[edit]

1 day's takings from the bridge (cars only) 150,000 x £1.50 =£225,000

Basic Taser $299.99 (£180.80)

£225,000/£180.80 = 1,244 tasers

Oh the fun we could have

Hmmm -

How's about we play right into the BNP's hands:

Anti Fascist protests at the BBC

I can hear him now:

"Well of course I wanted to appear, but to prevent violence I had no option but to withdraw; this is another example of the stifling of political debate..."

Current advice is these are just 'proposals' with the final decision being made in February 2010; speaking to a friend who is fairly high up in the union, the level of anger even in those offices which are not to close is extremely high - the Land Reg management are I think in for an interesting time...

Sorry to read about your job situation,Vicky.I hope things turn out for the best.

Perhaps Gordon Brown could 'accidently' take the BNP down to the dump along with our assets and Peter Mandleson...You never know;GB may find those gold reserves that he sold off.

well it's funny how things work out - here i am on my 1/2 term holiday, on a week where i thought i'd get things done - paint the house, see the dentist, go to the doctor, get the car fixed etc., none of these things have gone right  Unhappy

those B and Q tokens i saved up to spend on exterior paint were out of date, so i had to send them back for new replacements,

can't quite cut the garden back tidy as there are still plenty of flowers there,

i missed my dentist appointment  as i mistook the wrong  date,

my doctor is busy for the next  2 weeks,

managed to get the car in the garage for some body sill surgery but they are having trouble getting the parts, so no car this week,

expecting some new LP's but nothing coming through the  post ....

oh well, all i can do this week is sit around, watch the telly, listen to music and REST !  LOL

Good excuse, that man

can't quite cut the garden back tidy as there are still plenty of flowers there

Been thinking the same thing - trying at least to get the leaves burned before Mr & Mrs Tiggywinkle decide they're a good winter abode

i missed my dentist appointment  as i mistook the wrong  date

DON'T MENTION DENTISTS!

my doctor is busy for the next  2 weeks

Do what I do - call them & say you'd like to be ill 3 weeks next Thursday if that's convenient

managed to get the car in the garage for some body sill surgery but they are having trouble getting the parts, so no car this week

Ever noticed that car mechanics are never too busy or needing appointments? Perhaps due to the fact there is no car NHS

expecting some new LP's but nothing coming through the  post

LP's? L... P...s ?? - no - sorry, does not compute

oh well, all i can do this week is sit around, listen to music and REST !

Back to university then?
