 Topic: Magma's relatives

All of these bands or solo works have at least one person in them who was once a part of the band MAGMA. So yeah you could call these offshoots or band related. I don't expect a lot of feedback but this is more to draw attention to some amazing bands and albums that in many cases surpass MAGMA in my opinion. Just pick a fav if you like.
Daniel Denis played with MAGMA in 1972 and of course has led UNIVERS ZERO for years and also played with PRESENT.Patrick Gauthier played briefly with MAGMA and is known more for playing with HELDON.A few MAGMA members played with HELDON. Seffer and Cahen from ZAO were a big part of the sound of MAGMA's first two albums. Bussonnet and MacGaw played on KA and are a big part of one of my favourite bands ONE SHOT. There are more but these are albums i value highly and hope that others that don't have them will check them out.

I really like all of them. What a great poll, and what a difficult choice to make -- such wonderful albums here. This is one of the hardest choices I've been faced with in a poll that I can remember.
I'm very tempted to go with 1313, but then I'm also tempted to go with Yochk'o Seffer's, Zao's Weidorje's, Paga has a couple of my favourite tracks on it, love Bebe Godzilla. Stand By is great one SHot's I really like, and I enjoy that Top album.
That said, I'll go with Laurent Thibault's album. Superb, I think, and I don't expect it to get as many votes as others.

I find Laurent Thibault-Mail On Ne Peut Pas Rever to be a very good album and yet quite unnoticed in comparatio with other names from this subgenre. From the list I know all, but Jannick Top no, should I give a try??????

Laurent Thibault's album is the best of those listed IMO. I've heard all but 3 of the others.

 I hear you Logan, it's hard to pick just one.I haven't voted yet for that reason. I'm pleasantly surprised that Laurent Thibault has gotten as many votes as he has.What a great album.He along with Moze and Vander formed MAGMA but he left before their first album.Laurent would become a producer then start his own label.That's how the UNIVERIA ZEKT project came about. Which was basically MAGMA with ERGO SUM's vocalist doing an album for Laurent's label.I know you know all this Logan i'm just spreading information.  I hesitated to put UNIVERS ZERO on here thinking they'd get all the votes,but wanted to show the connection.

For sure you should check out either Top's new one or the one i listed. He's a monster on the bass on those two. On "Soleil D'ork" he has Blasquiz on vocals and Pinhas from HELDON playing guitar on the epic track.Top by the way played on one of HELDON's album too.

Only heard Paganotti, Univers Zero and Weidorje. Voting for the latter, superb album. My first Zeuhl album too.

Great choices by tszirmay and Ricochet. Gauthier on keyboards for that one as well.Paganotti on bass. Zeuhl may not be as inbred as Canterbury but there are a lot of connections,and i think that's a good thing. No i'm not promoting inbreeding.

I wouldn't recommend Soleil d'Ork - most of it just reminds me of a crappier Udu Wudu. Infernal Machina is awesome, though.. highly recommended! Aside from that, from the list I've only heard Weidorje and UZ, and both are great, Weidorje being slightly preferred. I'd probably pick UZ if it was one of their next four albums, though.

Univers Zero. Their chamber-rock debut rocks without being rock (just like Art Zoyds debut). I prefer this early version of UZ to the later, more "conventional" prog-version of them. Spinet and basoon riffs are way cooler than guitar and synths (atleast in R.I.O). Every album here contains a lot of great music. I guess not many has heard Bebe Godzilla. Its brilliant, and really worth checking out.

Hmm, tough pick and I haven't heard them all, but I had to go for One Shot. I love how straightforward they are, it's four virtuosi but zero pomposity! And that particular album is just so ZEUHL BASS RAWRR!! I'm yet to see them play live, but I really want to, and that says it all really.

Lot of brilliant albums here, voted UZ but could have voted for almost any of these.
Do not have those Paga and Gauthier solo efforts! That needs to be rectified.
