I prefer Purple to Rainbow much more, but I like Rainbow too. My favourite record is "Made In Japan", but if I have to pick a studio record that would be...Strombringer. As I'm getting older, it's getting better and better, concise, mature, with great hooks. It overtook my former Purple's No.1 - In Rock.

My favourite Rainbow is also a live album, On Stage. Dio is of course, my vocal pick. As for Purple: I love all the vocalists, perhaps I'm enjoying Rod Evans' timbre the most.

I dunno about favourite, but that solo is awesome. It seems to go on forever without losing force. The outro is pretty good too. It's probably just me but I swear i can hear his well-documented frustration at the time coming out on this track

1) Deep Purple, no doubt

2) Come Taste the Band or Fireball

3) Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow

4) No, No, No

5) David Coverdale (though Hughes and Gillan are totally awesome, while Rod and Joe are not that shabby either)

6) Dio

New question: Your Favorite Jon Lord solo? High Ball Shooter

Which band do you prefer?

Overall, Deep purple (especially Mk II) but Rainbow vertainly had their moments in the early days.

Your favourite Purple album?

Has to be Made In Japan - one of the great 1970s live albums

Your favourite Rainbow album?

On Stage, closely followed by Rising (Stargazer & Light In The Black were for me their creative peak)

Your favourite Ritchie Blackmore solo?

Catch The Rainbow, from 'On Stage' - subtle for most of its length, then he just rips free

Your favourite Purple singer?

Gillan - definitely Gillan

Your favourite Rainbow singer

Has to be Dio for me (and don't mention Joe Lynn Turner )

Jon Lord 1941 - 2012

My favorite Ritchie Blackmore guitar solo is on "Pictures Of Home'. The solo in the center of the song and the fade out solo at the end. As a kid I was always curious if the material on the first Rainbow album was what Blackmore would have wanted 'Stormbringer' to be. Back in 2004 I came across and advertisment for a live show of 'The Nice' featuring Ritchie Blackmore on guitar. I never purchased it. But I am still curious to hear him and Emerson have a go at interplay. Blackmore used to get on my nerves a bit when he would just slop things up and make noise with the guitar. The occasional noise breaker in between riffs was okay but, not as a performance itself. The solo on Lazy from Machine Head is the work of a madmanThumbs Up He can really play the guitar nicely when he feels up to it. The way he got pegged with the Smoke On The Water riff is degrading to the level of his true talents as many that I've met, seem to disregard him as the idiot who wrote the most played signature rock riff. "Street Of Dreams" is a great pop/rock song and the line up with Joe Lynn Turner is outstanding on the live in Japan DVD. The section where Blackmore plays Beethoven's 9th with a Japanese orchestra is one of the most outstanding performances of his life. I gotta give him credit on this one for sureThumbs Up He is a very moody player and doesn't always fulfill the expectations of his fans. ........I would like to find a copy of Roger Glover "Elements" on disc. The music on this record is very much in the vain of early Passport material.
