Oh jeez. I hadn't thought about a funeral song but I do have a multi-hour long playlist that I want played in my hospital should I ever go into a persistent vegetative state. It's primarily composed of optimistic and hopeful songs with a tinge of bitterness. Then the final song is "Supper's Ready" and the plug gets pulled at the climax coinciding with the sunrise of the day (provided there isn't sufficient cloud cover to obscure the view of the sun). We were told everyone should have a living will in one of my classes last semester so I had a bit of fun with it. |
I don't care if this is a joke or not, this is easily the most epic thing I've read in quite some time. I got a chill down my spine thinking about the sun rising while hearing "a new Jerusaleeeeeemmm..."
If I wanted to go out with a tongue-in-cheek over the top funeral, I'd have 'em play Bat out of Hell.
But my serious choice would, of course, be The Beatles' The End. It rocks, it's uplifting....
...and of course, it would be followed by Her Majesty

I'd like to have the entirety of H.M.S. Pinafore performed by a quartet of kazoos...

hmmm////
OK either KC's - In the Court of the Crimson King
or
Yes' - Wond'rous Stories
NOT Stairway To Heaven though or Tie Your Mother Down as it would be slightly inappropriate
Under the Rose by Kiss would be an interesting jawsmacking background song taken from the PROG.... yes PROG!!! album "The Elder".

I love The Band, and your choice of song. I hope Richard Manuel would feel the same. Another great gone before his time... R.I.P.

Interesting question, though very few get the opportunity to arrange their own funeral
has anybody been to a funeral lately..? these things are arranged very quickly, are like a production line and usually end up using their stock library of "my way" or "angels", the whole thing is a rush, the next funeral party is usually outside pushing to get in after ten minutes so prog songs of 20 minutes plus would be out...
the "minute waltz" would be a good option, if they have it...

Actually, i am a musician myself and writer, so first logically it would be my own compositions (and hopefully i will have plenty by then). Then the rest :)
Porcupine Tree
Pink Floyd
and maybe some rock & roll - deep purple, iron maiden, doors..

Already in my will is Turn of the Century, simply because of its expression of everlasting love and the certainty that there is SOMETHING (although we know not what) after death.
