I think that you should add dvd's to the list of bands albums. I am sure many people would like to review their dvds. Some good examples are

Pink Floyd - Live in Pompeii, The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon
Dream Theater - Once in a Livetime, Live in Tokyo, Live Scenes from New York
Yes - Yesspeak, Yes Acoustic

most of the bands on here have great dvds.

Also i recomend the band Oceansize. They need to be on here. They are great prog rockers!

Is their really such an apparent lack of interest in having a music DVD section?

I think music DVDs should certainly be included.  I have several music DVDs which I would be glad to review on here.

A good suggestion for sure.

We need to be careful though that we are not constantly bombarding those who set up and maintain the site, with expansion proposals. The list of bands and albums to be added gets ever longer already! We could add books, videos etc. too (Close to the edge - the story of Yes and the ELP biography are two good reads which come to mind).

At the end of the day, the site is about the music, and that should always be the priority.

As a suggestion, how about if DVD's which substantially contain versions of tracks which are not generally available on CD/LP etc. only were included. I'm thinking of DVDs like "Yes symphonic" and Pink Floyd's "Pompaii". Others like ELP's "Pictures" and Pink Floyd's "Dark side of the moon (Classic albums version)" would not be listed as the same music is available on CD/LP.

Just a thought.Wink

i dont think we need a dvd section urgently so take time, concentrate on tangerine dream first as i hear they have a big demand. I know i wont lose interest in this site because it is too good but it would be nice because i've reviewed all my prog rock albums already.

how many people actually help to build this site? i would love to help out. keep up the good work anyhoo.

Yep, please don't get distracted from getting Tangerine Dream's discography up and running.

I believe the site is actually built and maintained by two people.

Good idea, frenchie. Are you specifically talking about DVD-Audio or also suggesting DVD-Video?

I don't think it's necessary to have a separate DVD section. I suggest - as you appear to have done - that DVDs are just added to the band's list of albums if they are unique DVD releases. My suggestion would be an icon on the thumbnail (or next to it) indicating that the item is a DVD release.

Just lately there seems to be a proliferation of DVD-Video releases for bands, and I would be interested to read reviews on these too, as I'm sure I read somewhere that some of these video DVDs are just jumping on the bandwagon and have poor quality material or are very incomplete.

yeah just tag the dvd releases in order of the year they came out alongside the albums is what i was thinking. Doesn't need a section of its own as long as they are clearly marked as dvds. You can even put the tracklist and special features up and they would attract a lot of reviews.

Dvd audio...no. i thought they were the same as normal albums (music wise) just on a different format. if so, whats the difference. I would just love to review my dvds as i'm sure other fans would. I mean the wall film would be excellent to review! we can get fans discussing their views on the imagery of the wall and woo! but dont rush cos you've done so much already. All that tangerine dream musta took a while.

frenchie,

DVD-Audio albums are not necessarily the same as the "normal" albums. Some have additional tracks and are remixed for the DVD-Audio format's 6 audio channels at 96kHz 24-bit digital (so much higher resolution than normal 2-channel 16-bit CDs). I think some have DVD-Video as well. Check out the detailed review of the DVD-Audio release of ELP's "Brain Salad Surgery" here:

http://www.highfidelityreview.com/reviews/review.asp?reviewn umber=41688

It looks an exciting release. My DVD-Video player can play DVD-Audio discs too, and I'm tempted to buy this DVD-Audio disc just to see how it sounds (notice the mention in the review of circling keyboards, wandering vocals and the whole soundstage collapsing inwards at one point on 'Karn Evil 9'). Listening to vey high fidelity sound from 6 channels digitised at 24 bits from specially prepared remasters of the analogue masters seems very interesting!

you're right but i was just saying that whether its on cd, tape, vinyl or dvd audio, the albums music will be the same with only minor differences so i'm not sure if we should be clogged up with every different version of one album.

Well then, I'm DEMANDING Echolyn's Stars and Gardens be immediately added to the list and I'll absolutely, positively, force Peter Rideout to review it....

Of course we'll have to wait for the horse and buggy to deliver a DVD player to the Great White North.

Oh yeah, his kids will have to handle the set up. Old grandpa surely can't bend his knees deep enough to get behind the ol' tele, now can he?

King Crimson - Deja Vrooom
Tool - Salival
Jethro Tull - Living With the Past
Roger Waters - In The Flesh
Roger Waters - The Wall Live In Berlin
David Gilmour - Live In Concert
Yes - Symphonic Live
