Damnation is a sub-par album. It's a metal band trying to be something completely different; for me it doesn't quite work. It's alright.

Bravo Faust, an album worth listening.  Cluster came back with less.

I actually agree with you on this.

It lacks that bite that they have with their metal and death growls.  I don't know why they couldn't have made it heavier but not actually metal.  If that makes sense.  Sort of like Riverside have done.

But 'cause Rob's not used to death metal BREEEEing (but he likes some metal), I thought it'd be a good place for him to start.

Plus that and Rico will like it.

That's why Damnation might be your thing.  It's a Symphonic Prog album.

Yeah, I don't know; it just doesn't sound like Opeth at all to me. Even then, none of the songs are particularly outstanding, even if stylistically stripped of many aspects of their sound. I agree with you that it should have been heavier.

Oddly enough, the structure of the songs are still pretty much metal, which is why I think it doesn't work. It's trying to fit metal structures into a music style without metal and it sounds awkward. If you analyze the riffs, they're mostly metal riffs.

One big damn reason I found Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence to be a five-star album.

I think Damnation is pretty average for an Opeth album. But in Opeth's case average is pretty f**king great. Strong four stars but far from their best, and from their worst. I don't think there's one weak song there.

I made the lamest joke ever earlier.  I feel bad.

I said I was having a nice quiet evening with the lights off, television off.  So just Paradise by the Laptop Light.

I hate Meat Loaf... but that was just too tempting to write.
