I notice Iceburn aren't in the Prog Archives. Is there a reason why? They started off as punk-jazz or hardcore with horns but became increasingly insane/avant garde. I would've thought that monumental albums such as Hephaestus, Meditavolutions and Firon would have made them a shoo-in for a site like this.
If you haven't heard them (and that's probably most of you) do try to find one of the records I just mentioned. I daren't dare try to actually describe the sound they make because first nothing can prepare you for the nightmarish squonking and secondly I think having no idea what's about to happen is part of the fun of listening to Iceburn. It's almost like a good horror movie- it's not enjoyable per se but a morbid curiosity grips you and you have to see what on earth they'll do next even as part of you prays to go deaf.

What subgenre do you think they would be suited best in?

Progtologist: Whoops, quite right. What a newbie.
As for sub-genre I don't really know/care. What I do know is that they should be in here somewhere.

Your description sounds like something that James would like, so probably the RIO/Avant team should check it out.

They have no website that I know of and broke up in 2000.
Here's a discography- generally the further along you go, the more incredibly bizarre they get:

Well they can't be added if no one can listen to them. If you have samples yourself, you can PM me a link. I'll pass it along to the other members of the team.

Something I should have mentioned: Meditavolutions is a seamless 70 minute musical palindrome.
Yes, I knew that would get you all salivating.
