If there's a possibility to choose between a jewel case or a digipak, no difference in the content otherwise, I'm ready to pay an euro or two extra for the digipak.

Of course, mini-lps are the real king when they are high quality.

Digipak, but there's nothing wrong with a jewel case with a nice booklet in it. The digipak ssems to be more versatile though... there can be done some cool thing with artwork in the digipak.
I've got the Metanoia and Up The Downstair digipak versions. They're very fine indeed!

Totally agree, if only more labels would take a leaf out of BTF's book. What wonderful lp sleeve reproductions they make.
My next favourite is digipak/book. far preferable to a horrible plastic box.

Oh no, absolutely not. That's my least favorite package, where you almost have to use your bodyweight to get the cd out of the sleeve. ![]() No, it has a holder like a jewel case, and you can unfold it like a book, pull out the booklet much more easily than with the jewel case. Elegance, beauty and easy to use. I do think they call it a digipak. I just saw it on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digipak |

The good thing is, you usually have to pay less for the digipack.

It doesn't matter to me, as long as the finished product is of great quality.

I love digipaks and digibooks because of all the nifty little extras that usually come with them. I think it's often a real asset to the album and its artwork, and they can be used really creatively (see 10,000 Days by Tool) Now on the other hand, jewelcases don't get all torn up around the edges, they don't fold, etc.
But they also break. So yeah, I'll go with digipaks. Edited by Tarquin Underspoon - October 06 2009 at 16:34 |

I'm a jewel case man since they can easily be replaced. They aren't as fragile as advertised if you regularly handle cds. It amazes me how often I'll buy a second-hand disk to see the center tabs (holding down the cd) broken off. How much force do people put on these things?

mmm... I like the Jewel case anytime... though the smell of digipack is great while is new and has more space for artistic graphic and all that... but like the special edition of O.S.I. first album, is digipack and I had never seen an album so great in concept of art like that... but still prefer the jewel case... it last forever... |

Digi-pacs are the closest thing to an album cover. Jewel cases have a
tendency to break when dropped or put in my computer bag. Although, if
the Digi-pac gets damaged, you can't buy a replacement like a jewel
case. Nope, Digi-pacs it is!

That special edition has one of the greatest packaging I've ever seen. Besides it supported the concept of the album itself, so it wasn't made beautiful just for the sake of it. Other cool packaging is Chroma Key's Graveyard Mountain Home. It's a digipack but with a different material used on the cover, more resistant and elegant. I also love (not prog) Pearl Jam's No Code and Vitalogy album design. Quite innovative to use snapshots as lyric printing. So...digipack it is. |

^ I think the OSI special edition was a custom digibook. I love digibooks ... I just bought the Guilt Machine special edition digibook.

Yes... Vitalogy... what concept of art man..!!! Pear Jam has the taste for it... you see the "B" sides collection of them... is called "Rearview Mirror" and seems like a mirror... and of course... is a digipack... but I still prefer the jewel cases... I mean... for all the standard albums... yes... the only ones who deserves the digipack are that big art concepts that we're talking about... jejeje...

I love digipaks, they are prettier than jewel cases but are a bugger to store - they don't fit in my wooden cd racks
![]() a tip - i have all my digipaks in acetate sleeves commonly bought from jewellery suppliers, they are cheap and will keep your badly stored digipaks in mint condition!
