B-52's - progressive electronic
Mistaken for an New Wave act for they appeared at this time, the B-52's took their influences from various kraut-rock bands and precursors of electronic music such as Gordon Mumma or Pauline Oliveros. Using elaborate polyphonic vocal parts and strange electronic sounds, the band was close to the style of the Residents, only more "musical". They opened their music to mesopotamian influences on the "Mesopotamia" album. Various bootlegs (all forbidden by their label) showed they could create long and complex improvisations remembering Kluster or Conrad Schnitzler with a jazz-rock/fusion groove.

Billy Squier, a man whose genius was so deep and artistry so unique it
actually threatened the stability of the music industry. When you've
loved and lost like Billy has, who can blame this national treasure for
not putting out an album since '98 and with gems as Enough is Enough and 16 Strokes, all I can say is rock me tonite, Bill.
