No vote. I don't even know if the prototypical rock star shuld be a singer or a guitar hero, or if being a rock star has anything to do with a certain lifestyle.

Mozart
Only really in a Hollywood universe would he come close. At least Mozart didn't have that kind of mass appeal "rock star-like" stature during his life, and died poor (but then many rock stars died poor, and young so he attained that kind of iconic status post mortem).

If you're talking about picking someone off the street and asking them to describe a rock star, they'd probably describe someone like:
Slash, Axl Rose, Bret Michaels, Ozzy Osbourne, or for that matter, Yngwie Malmsteen (although they wouldn't know they were describing Yngwie at all, if that makes sense)
From this list, I think Richards probably fits this bill best.
Not sure who my number 1 would be, but when I think rock star, i see:
Ozzy Osbourne Mick Jagger Keith Richards David Lee Roth Steven Tyler Jimi Hendrix The Beatles Lemmy (Motorhead) Angus Young
Basically those who either live the "rock and roll lifestlye", are a big draw live, have great stage presence or some sort of combination of these things.

Lemmy is a class act. He was in St. Louis last month and stopped in at my work. He was in his calvary soldier outfit eventhough the show wasn't for 2 nights. Nice guy as well. Nobody knew who he was. He just stayed to himself.
