Kossack dancing.

However, Afenginn are Danish (but with a Finn amongst their ranks) and play a gyspy-folk klezmer type thing.

Now if you had it on CD, you'd be able to learn the dance moves as well. Wink

I get that...but we did that last time, and it was a fairly bad experience.

My mom and sister stayed with us a week or two before the birth, my mom even came to the hospital to watch the birth, then the rest of my family came down right after.

All I remember was trying to entertain family (5 other people) while my wife struggled with breastfeeding, cooped up in our bedroom (my son never took to it, and my wife is convinced it was the stress of having people over so much).

All I want to do make my wife as comfortable with this as possible, but I hate disappointing people, especially close family.

Robert, your wife is perfectly entitled to a few weeks with no visitors.  It's not too much to ask, seems perfectly reasonable with the stress level she will have with everything going on.  Stick to your guns.  Grandma will get over it.

Just leave the HC boxset at the doorstep and I'll pick it up.

Maybe...you don't know my mom!

One thing she and my wife have in common is the uncanny ability to bring up something that happened like six years ago!

I agree with you- I wouldn't have last kid, but now I've seen how hectic childbirth and the events shortly after really are.  I just want my wife to be as comfortable as possible.   My wife is even only taking two weeks off work!  Shocked

I just hate my ma feeling like sh*t.  She's not a demanding or unreasonable person...she's just feeling very left out here (especially since my wife's parents live ten minutes away).  Disapprove

I suppose it is a bit of a different situation since they would probably have to stay with you since they are coming from out of town, but it still seems mean to exclude your mom from seeing the baby.  Mom's live for being grandmas.  If nothing else, you'd think it would be good to have her there to help take care of your oldest child.

That's what my mom's mom is going to do.

Another reason I feel crummy.  Disapprove

Think of the alternative too, Robert.  If you decide to back Mom on this, and the birth is even more complicated/stressful than anticipated, you will have to face the wrath of one pissed off wife for talking her into visitors LOL

(just teasin there, obviously I don't know your mom or wife's personality)

Scott is right that Mom's live to be grandmas, but all you're asking for is a couple weeks.....its not like 3 months or something.  I just can't imagine that amount of time being so controversial.

One thing about my mom was that no one can criticize her without crossing her.  If that makes any sense...

But yeah, my mom totally exaggerated on the phone saying, "Well if we don't see her until next year, I guess we don't see her until next year!"  And I'm like, "come on..."

Once my mom is upset, nothing will change her feelings.

I already made up my mind a long time ago to back my wife...that's a non-issue.

I just needed to vent I suppose...

It's times like these I'm glad I habitually drink as much as I do...

Rob 2, I didn't know you believed in God. I thought that wasn't allowed for Oxford students! Maybe they just beat it out of you the first year. ;-)

Rob 1, I don't know what it is with wives and mother in laws. It's like a law of nature that really stupid drama occurs.

I'm going to have to think of some hernia related puns to use. But hernia isn't really a common sound...

I know, I'm even a classicist... hoping they'll go for the slow corruption route rather than the beating. Believe it or not, I know a bloke who's studying history there after a gap year doing missionary work in Kenya.

If it makes you feel any better, I've had a hernia for almost five years, and when I went to get it repaired, a woman pulled me aside and said I may as well be on welfare and that they weren't going to do the procedure.

But isn't there like Medicare or something...? I mean seriously, one of the Wikipedia possible side effects of an untreated hernia is death!

Medicaid (Medicare is for old people)...

Anyway, I don't want the government's nose in my business.  That's kind of the long and the short of it.

D'oh, I knew I was going to get that wrong.

On the one hand, I see your point, but on the other hand, I think that's really kind of stupid.

But it could be worse. It's possible to get a cerebral hernia!
