A very little known player who sadly belongs among the deceased already is Christian Boulé. He used to play with Clearlight and made two solo albums, "Photo Musik" and "Non-Fiction", which are both worth listening to, especially "Photo Musik". He sounds a bit like Steve Hillage, and for people who don't know Clearlight's "Symphony" album it is a good guessing game which of the two tracks he plays on (on the other Hillage plays the guitar). It is not surprising that Hillage used him as rhythm guitarist in his band for some time, although he admitted in an interview that Christian was an excellent soloist too.

I voted for Andrew Latimer - a much underrated guitarist with distinctive style and a lot of 'feel' for his instrument. I've seen him play live and he really does put across a lot of emotion and soul in his playing

Zappa is amazing in a totally different way.

Agree that i whuld liked to have seen Hillage on the list but as things are i go with the Fippster.

Uhm! I'd voted for Jan Akkerman from Focus... but out of that list, I stay with Bobby: the most balanced IMO. I've always found Zappa a bit overrated as a guitar player.

Holdsworth? Another safe choice. But puttin him among the guitarist listed would be like cheating: he's an accomplished jazz fusion guitar player. I think he has a huge advantage for that fact.
The best you can is good enough...

Really surprising because there are tracks that are simply unbelievable , his acoustic work on early KC albums is tremendous but electric stuff on Sailor's Tale, 21st Century, all of Larks Tongues, Starless and Red are all mind-blowing. His solo on Eno's Baby's on Fire and Bowie's Heroes are original and searing. Forget the Frippertronics, just his various tones ,passionate intricacy and modesty is above and beyond anything by anyone. He is no flashy player but when you hear him live , you will understand his immense contributions to modern guitar playing. Cool
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

Hard to say since all of these guitarists are good in their own way, but I just love Gilmours airy guitar sound. (If they would count Queen as prog I would choose Brian May)

Would have liked to see Roine Stolt and Guthrie Govan on the list (check out his solo album) but from this list, I had to go with Gilmour first and Steve Howe second then Fripp third.  Zappa's playing never really evoked much emotion in me, I know I might get hate for that, but eh, oh well!

Adrian Belew could hold his own, I think.

Anyway, I went with the majority with Fripp.  I really do find him to be the most interesting guitarist in Prog, and love to watch him play.  I'm a bit of a fanboy, actually.
