Here are the movies I've seen this week:

Superhero Movie 4/10
A couple of funny scenes, somewhat more entertaining than the average parody/spoof film, but obviously not all that great.

Entre les murs 8/10
A highly realistic depiction of school life in multicultural France. Thought-provoking, smart and entertaining as well.

Hannibal Rising 4/10
Well, Hannibal was already lousy, but this one takes the cake. Gaspard Ulliel as Hannibal Lecter is like a pathetic little snake and possesses none of the charm and wit that made Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal such a memorable character. The plot is sub-standard and the acting is below average as well. Avoid.

Ghost Town     Reasonably funny if much too cute feel-gooder with Ricky Gervais as an obnoxious dentist recruited by dead people to settle their unfinished business.  Ghost meets As Good as it Gets but not quite as good as either. 

Saw a German film called The Edukators (in translation... no idea about the original title) last night/this morning... extremely moving, sincere and gripping. Interesting analysis of personal change and the state of the world today. Perhaps a little excessive at one point, but with one of the most effectively ambiguous characters I've seen in a long time, this one was really entirely worth watching. 9/10

just saw a great documentary on the blues called Sweet Home Chicago

well few come close to Kubrick and Clarke, maybe you'd prefer Part 2

The Devil's Backbone -  Finally got around to watching this earlier del Toro ghost story. Loved it and the way it  very successfully mixes horror, suspense, and coming of age during the war time.

36 Quai Des Orfèvres - Not the first time I watched this and I reckon that the view that it is like the French version of Michael Mann's "Heat" is not too far wide of the mark. Dark and gritty stuff - excellent.

I was watching 2001 with headphones the other night, I was really tired and I didn't even get to Clavius. It sounds great on headphones though.
