I was wondering what if we had to substitute every member of Yes (I mean, Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, Squire and Bruford)  Who could be their substitutes?  What I´d like is to have a list of musicians that could be like the originals, top talented and similar styles (considering that every talented musician is unique).

My list is:

Carl Palmer for Bruford
Keith Emerson for Wakeman
Steve Morse for Howe
Tony Levin for Squire

A substitute for Jon Anderson is very difficult for me.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards,

Personally, I'd make the following substitutions:

Phil Collins for Bruford
Tony Banks for Wakeman
Steve Hackett for Howe

(can you see where this is going)

Mike Rutherford for Squire

. . .

Benoit David for Jon Anderson
Oliver Wakeman for Rick Wakeman
Trevor Rabin for Steve Howe
Alan White for Bill Bruford
and Chris Squire is just irreplaceable.

I guess Annie Haslam would be a good substitute for Anderson.

You beat me to it.

I'd have put Khoroshev in there instead of Oliver Wakeman, though.

I'd keep the lineup the same, in complete honesty. Every single member brings something insanely unique to the mix and keeps it fresh and original, and you'd be foolish to change something so brilliant and perfect.

Levin is good. He just doesn't belong in a Yes project, there is no comparison. He certainly didn't hurt the ABWH project, but the lack of Squire on that album and tour was glaringly obvious and disappointing.

I would do...

Benoit David for Jon Anderson
Jordan Ruddess for Rick Wakeman (this would be cool)
Steve Hackett for Steve Howe
Alan White for Bill Bruford
Dave Meros for Chris Squire

if it was the case:

 'Dane'  (Druid)   instead  Anderson.
  Greg Lake instead Squire.
  Terry Bozzio instead of Brufford.
The guy who play keyboards in Badger instead Wakeman
    Julian Bream  instead of Howe

Not using any members of Yes, here is an all-star tribute band:

Vocals- Steve Hogarth
Guitar- Steve Morse
Bass- Geddy Lee
Drums- Phil Collins
Keyboards- Derek Sherinian

Not a carbon copy but they should be able to pull it off. Smile

Really, it would be hardly possible to make a better line-up for any band as the one from Close to the Edge. As I once read, it was a whole line-up of top musicians, the best of the best in each instrument. None of them was particularly superior or inferior than any other.
