I don't know which sentence provided the bigger laugh:
1. That this piece of. . .celluloid was only "a slight letdown." Or--
2. Tom Green has fans?

^ of course he has fans, they're just too embarrassed to say so
A Prairie Home Companion A different kind of movie fictionalizing Garrison Keillor's radio show with a good cast and Keillor's deadpan comedy perfect as M.C. At first you probably won't like this slower-moving celebration of rural life and its characters stuck in time, but when taken at the pace intended it's a warm and sweet depiction of mid-20th century Americana. Robert Altman's last film before his death. Recommended but only on the second time around. Edited by Atavachron - September 16 2009 at 04:44 |

Yes, excellent film! Here are the movies I've seen this week: Superhero Movie 4/10 A couple of funny scenes, somewhat more entertaining than the average parody/spoof film, but obviously not all that great. Entre les murs 8/10 A highly realistic depiction of school life in multicultural France. Thought-provoking, smart and entertaining as well. Hannibal Rising 4/10 Well, Hannibal was already lousy, but this one takes the cake. Gaspard Ulliel as Hannibal Lecter is like a pathetic little snake and possesses none of the charm and wit that made Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal such a memorable character. The plot is sub-standard and the acting is below average as well. Avoid. |

This week I watched LITTLE CHILDREN and I really enjoyed it. It is of course based off a novel and every 5 to 10 miutes of the film there is narrration which is actually a plus. The story contains a spiritual message about life. It is intelligent and entertaining. The Ninth Gate: Another Roman Polanski film which I passed on at the time of it's release. It's educational to a degree however most movies dealing with the subject matter of the occult have always seemed ridiculous to me. THE NAME OF THE ROSE: An 80's film about murder in a 14th century abbey. A monk discovers literature containing secret knowledge. The literature is Gnostic text. So that's it for me....2 older films and one new one. I wonder if Johnny Depp is going to take on the role of Syd Barrett. I know sometimes this kind of idea can be overated, however I haven't given up completely and would be interested in checking it out. Johnny Depp would be my choice to play the character of Syd Barrett. |

Ghost Town Reasonably funny if much too cute feel-gooder with Ricky Gervais as an obnoxious dentist recruited by dead people to settle their unfinished business. Ghost meets As Good as it Gets but not quite as good as either.

Inglourious Basterds
Ridiculously good. I've always felt Taratino's movies, except for Reservoir Dogs which is amazing, were never good as I hoped, but this one was just incredible. It's hilarious, yet full of tension and outright entertaining Sorority Row This was disgustingly bad, absolute trash. Complete with "slasher" movie cliches. But all in all, it was somehow really awesome and super entertaining. I know I'll be buying this on DVD to watch again and again and again. |

Saw a German film called The Edukators (in translation... no idea about the original title) last night/this morning... extremely moving, sincere and gripping. Interesting analysis of personal change and the state of the world today. Perhaps a little excessive at one point, but with one of the most effectively ambiguous characters I've seen in a long time, this one was really entirely worth watching. 9/10

Finally saw the Godfather...I'd give it maybe a 7.5/10, it was good but not amazing. Nothing particularly bad about it, but there really wasn't anything which made me think "Wow, this is the best movie ever made!" as so many people believe. Acting was good, though, and the story wasn't bad. I prefer Mafia! to it any time.

Yeah I got that feeling from the story as it went on. It just failed to really hit me...for everyone who thinks it's the best thing since prog, I'm happy...for me, though, it doesn't even come remotely close to the masterpiece which is 2001: A Space Odyssey.

My roommate has Part 2 as well, we're planning on watching it one of these nights. Unfortunately I doubt any of the kids on my floor would really appreciate 2001 so I'm going to have to watch it by myself at some point. That's not necessarily a bad thing though, I'm thinking I'll use it to test out my new headphones when they arrive.

His new movie, Grand Torino, is EXCELLENT
Same for Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds. As good as Pulp Fiction, definitely!
Try Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in America, another mafia movie, also with De Niro... Far better.
As for Kubrick, Clockwork is amazing. So are Full Metal Jacket and The Shining Edited by Tsevir Leirbag - September 22 2009 at 19:39 |

Since Kubrick was brought up, don't miss Paths Of Glory, Lolita, and, of course, Dr. Strangelove.

The Devil's Backbone - Finally got around to watching this earlier del Toro ghost story. Loved it and the way it very successfully mixes horror,
suspense, and coming of age during the war time.
36 Quai Des Orfèvres - Not the first time I watched this and I reckon that the view that it is like the French version of Michael Mann's "Heat" is not too far wide of the mark. Dark and gritty stuff - excellent. |

I was watching 2001 with headphones the other night, I was really tired and I didn't even get to Clavius. It sounds great on headphones though. |
